    Is my transmission going out?

Just growing this out there, someone mentioned earlier the parking brake. Partially engaged or a sticking cable could cause a similar issue. Due to the design of the drum brakes, it will hold more going forward. When you back up, it would move easier (still dragging) and could loosen up the...

GM paper or K&N hi- flow filter, Worth the cost in a stock truck ?

I have a K&N in my OT car. I had one in my truck, but it would get loaded up with under hood insulation, since it was oily. I also did not like having to wash the filter, let it dry, reoil. It took a while versus pulling out the paper one and throwing a new one in. And in the end, I did not...

Interesting observation of my thermostat/temperature gauge

While I agree with the above comments, before you start chasing things down, use an IR gun or aftermarket gauge (even temporarily) to find your actual temps before you start getting worried. Then Go from there.

    Rear sway bar

Mine is a truck with less weight in the back most of the time, and I could definitely notice a difference, especially with the well worn rear springs.

    Chevy 250 carburetor swap

If you search 1 to 2 barrel adapter, a lot of different adapters popped up. You may have to go by measurements rather than application though.

    2 or 4 bolt mains

I pulled a 454 out of a square suburban with a 4 bolt main (original block). I do not know how to tell without dropping the pan. I am running a 2 bolt 454. I studded the mains and I have had no problems with it. I tow with it, and use it for typical truck stuff. I would not dwell much on the 2...

How do I know if I have HEI, and if I don't have it, should I upgrade

Points work great, the only reason I went to a Pertronix in my OT car, the quality of new points and condensers is marginal at best!

    Rear sway bar

I put a factory one on a K20 about a year or so ago. Frankly, it was a pain in the ass. It certainly helps, but needed new u bolts, plates, took some grinding, and the axle tubes are a different size than the 10 bolt. Probably best to go with the after market.

    Time for a new radiator

You might want to try one out of a 1990 v3500 with a big block. You need a new water neck as well. It comes straight up out of the block, runs pretty much straight forward toward the radiator, then runs along radiator to the inlet neck.

How do I know if I have HEI, and if I don't have it, should I upgrade

If it is 75 or later, it came from the factory with HEI. Below is a points distributor

Stalls when pressing gas too fast

Congratulations, it was good to see you were persistent. Sorry for doubting you could do it! Feels great when you are able to fix it yourself, especially when people (like me) are telling you to have someone else more experienced fix it. May I recommend investigating the Optima a little more? I...

    Fuel filter inlet leak q-jet

That is almost certainly your problem. People used to have issues stripping the threads, and one of the companies (Dorman, Help) made a fitting that would self tap. Just another thought IF the gasket does not help.

How much weight will a 1/2 ton really handle?

Damn, that is pretty impressive! I was all excited when I put 3k in my k2500 with no sagging. I must say, I am humbled now!

    EGR Valve and dual exhaust

It should not be too much of a problem with the egr - a lot of trucks came with dual exhaust, no cats, and egr from the factory.

    Hydraboost question

How much is he asking? I finally caved and bought a parts store one because of the lifetime warranty. Might want to price one and compare.

Transfer case lever slips out of selection

Not to be a smart ass, but on a 205 hour shift pattern from top to bottom is 4lo, N, 2hi, 4hi. If you are shifted all the way up (thinking it is 4hi) and trying to get speed in 4lo, that might explain why it is popping out of gear.

RESOLVED Help! Custom power steering lines

I had a local shop make me power steering lines for another vehicle for $40 each. Might be worth checking around, unless you are committed to braided lines.

    Swapping Drivetrain

While I can not speak for the 700r4, the 208 can be pretty stout. It came factory in 3/4 tons. Ford also used them in their 3/4 tons and, I believe, behind the 460. Might be much easier putting in an NP241 if you are concerned about strength. It should bolt in with minimal, if any, modification...

General concensus on fixing the windshield washer pump?

You can get a bottle with a built in washer off a later square body. I am not sure about the wiring and how to do it all up though. Your current set up incorporates the pump into the wiper motor assembly. You might want to troubleshoot it first. Make sure you have power going to the pump...

    Wanders All Over the Road

Try rotating tires front to back. I have chased steering issues which led to the replacement of expensive parts when it turned out to be an issue with the tires. I felt dumb after that! Rotating them is free. Is the only Jimmy lifter? Lifts can throw off caster.

    Clutch options

I have a Sachs clutch in mine. It has held up to a big block and towing heavy along with pulling stumps. I do not drive like a 16 year old (too cheap to keep buying tires), but it has lasted quite a while. I bought it to replace my Centerforce Dual Friction when the hub on the clutch disc...

    Upgrade Battery Cables

Interstate battery sells ends with slugs of solder in them. You just heat up the end with a propane torch until the slug melts and then insert the cable end. When it cools, the end is tight and great connection. Looks clean as well!

    14 bolt SF disk brakes

I had El Dorado calipers when I did mine. I could get rid of them fast enough! They did not hold worth a damn! I went with 3/4 ton front calipers and drive shaft mounted parking brake. It worked fair. Ultimately, I went to 13 x 3 1/2 drums. Parking brake holds great now! Unless you really...

Difference between stock air cleaner and aftermarket?

Nah, I had run across the coolant filter in the junkyard. Common on medium and heavy duty trucks, Diesel guys use them too. Figured why not! Not sure how much it helps. My coolant is cleaner, but there is still some shit floating around in the system. As for the power steering filter - was...

    Time for a new radiator

I have had plenty of copper/brass radiators shit the bed. I took the 4 core out of my truck when it started leaking. I put in an oreilly radiator. Well shit - it cools a lot better than the 4 core did! The Champion ones I run in my other cars gave me the same results! As for the oreilly one -...
