What have you done to your square lately??

Getting the CUCV ready to bring out of winter hibernation... I had my dash apart to replace the CUCV voltmeter with 24v & 12V voltmeters from VDO, and to replace the heater controls with a new one from LMC since the old one looked pretty ratty. While everything was apart, I cleaned all of the...

What’s the best way to fix/clean up this wiring problem?

^^^^ I agree with everyone's comments. That is one hot mess which would drive me bonkers :banghead: until I corrected everything. But I fear this is just the tip of the iceberg. You really need to see where those wires are going...you might just find out that some, if not all, are even needed!

    I’m pretty pissed!!

That seems pretty asinine to me as well. :boxed: I'll have to remember to NOT use Energy Suspension bushings.

    Polishing up the gauge lens

I did my gauge lens last year. This might sound crazy, but on a whim, I tried some Mothers Aluminum Wheel polish I had laying around. My lens was pretty crappy, so I figured if it didn't work...no big loss. Anyways, I tried it out and it made my lens look damn near new. I just rubbed it on...

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.

Before you tear into it, maybe you could try this... Take the distributor cap off so you can see the rotor. Then, try to rock the motor back and forth by turning the crank or belt accessory by hand. That might give you an idea of how much chain slop you have. How many miles are on the 'ol girl?

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.

Looks like you tried all the usual suspects... Did you double-check your spark plug wires? Maybe you got some mixed up. My next guess would be that maybe your timing chain is stretched or jumped a tooth?....or maybe you have a worn lobe on the camshaft?

Corp 14 bolt brake line difference question

Yep....ditto that. Also, the spring perch widths are different from 3/4 ton to 1 ton. The spring perch width (center to center) on your installed axle should be 42.5 in. The 1 ton axle in your second pic should have a 40.0 in. width. Just thought I'd mention that in case you were planning on...

    Frame & undercarriage advise!

THAT...is a top-notch frame resto. Smart thinking on using the two engine stands and wooden blocks as a rotisserie!

    Frame & undercarriage advise!

That's another reason I'm not fond of Black Fluid Film...it could make it look like you're "hiding" something.

What is my new squarebody??? Need help!

Yeah...I'm guessing someone body-swapped the Silverado body onto the CUCV chassis, and added the VIN tags. There's a remote chance that the cab is the original military.... do you have any interior pics? A CUCV interior would look like this: The military cab has blackout light switches next...

    Frame & undercarriage advise!

I prefer the regular. I buy a gallon bucket and use my spray gun...then I'll use spray cans for touch-ups. I've seen the black Fluid Film used before, and I didn't really care for how it looked....it seemed to have a messy wet-look. If you're looking for a nice satin/flat black look, then...

    Frame & undercarriage advise!

I'll second that.....and take it one step further, and suggest a rust preventive like Fluid Film. I use it on all my vehicles and had pretty good results. I spray the undercarriage, inside the doors, fenders, tailgate, etc. But I also keep my squarebodies hibernated in the garage for the...

Looks like that truck you bought is in pretty good shape! I have a black and silver truck also....actually, it's gunmetal gray and black...and the black on the bottom is LineX.

I've always liked the two-tones...in just about any color combo...black and silver is one of my favorites. So, are you gonna do black and silver? ...or silver and black?

    14 bolt FF missing parts?!

Yes!! This is the newer style spindle nut. Not sure which year they started this on the 14-bolt...I think 85-ish? Anyway, all you need to do is...install the nut to the proper torque, line up the groove on the spindle to one of the notches on the nut, install the square key, then install the...

New Dual Tank Install....I have a question...?????

You're welcome! :happy107: Yeah....you should be fine. Even if there is a chance something happens and you need it replaced under warranty, how would they really know that you didn't install filters?

New Dual Tank Install....I have a question...?????

I would agree that adding two filters is a bit much....especially since the factory dual tank set-up doesn't have filters between the valve and tanks. I'd say the option is up to you. While adding filters wouldn't hurt, it would add a little time & money to the install. On the other hand, if...

    Wanting 4" suspension suggestions

At's a nice truck. I was always a sucker for the two-tones. Yeah...that one there is probably a 6" lift with 37" or 38" tires...judging with my trusty measuring thumb, of course.

    Boy Scout campfire lesson

Been there, done that. Those mice just LOVE to get into the heater core/blower area. Here's a tip to help keep those critters outta your truck....they do not like strong smells. When i put my trucks away for the winter, I'll hang air fresheners on the mirror, or even use dryer sheets (like...

Help me Tom Cruise.. Fuel or Spark Issue??

Could be something as simple as your choke not opening up all of the way or not at all. Did you check to see if your choke is open when the engine is warmed up? A closed/stuck choke would definitley cause the symptoms you describe.

    Wanting 4" suspension suggestions

Agreed. If you're planning on street-driving with some light off-roading, a 4" lift with 35's should be fine...as long as you don't go crazy with offset wheels and spacers. Now if you're looking to do some more hard-core type wheeling, then yes...you will need more room in your...
