Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

yeah - I would "start" with break in procedure. Hopefully the shop will have given you a list of "do's and dont's" when you first picked it up. If the bores have glazed over, you will never get it back( ie it is the mechanical seal developed between rings and bore, not oil viscosity that will...

Hidden Rattle Found, Update Not Found!

Just had to replace the rear muffler on my sons truck. Made an annoying rattle when you started up which then went away at higher rpm. Had blown out an internal baffle, but you couldn't see anything from outside. May be worth a look ??

    Engine Swap Transmission Selection

I would suggest the 4l80E as it is heavier duty - may give you more options going forward on a truck. The 4l60 over here is used on the sedan, and seems a bit undercooked -. Agree with rebuilding yourself, and getting the ATSG book. Also fit a stage I kit while you are at it, and get the full...

K20 upgrades. EDELBROCK AVS II. Why so negative ?

Roads - have a buddy in eastern Kansas that sent photos of deep snow and heavy ice this week. I know the I25 used to suck between Trinidad ( Co. ) and Raton ( NM ) when the wind blows down from Wolf Creek Pass, so I would keep away from that route. Carbs - I "scored" a Holley 84017 at a swap...

    Replacement doors?

oooh, stay with original sheet metal in my book. Especially if you are in the desert and can find rust free stuff. Aftermarket will never fit as well as the OEM panels. If you are really concerned about rust, hot wash the insides of the doors, then have them sand blasted ( inside in the joints...

    Quadrajet Spacers

Heat soak is what happens when your engine has run up to operating temperature ( hot ) and is then shut off. The cooling effects of the circulating coolant, air flow and fuel flow all stop, and the heat from the engines combustion looks to escape through radiation. This takes time, and the...

Th700 cooler line nuts & tools

what are you trying to do / why do you need to remove it? We recently had to repair the trans cooler lines on an OBD K2500 4x4. Absolutely no way thse lines are coming off the trans without dropping it ( trans ) out of the truck. The line had to be repaired, as the PO had cut them at the rad...

Apologies if this has been covered before - did a good search through, but most threads seem to be on general diagnosis and swapping out re-man boxes. If there is a tech sticky please direct me over - thanks.

SAGINAW P type Power Steering Pump REBUILD - Tech Questions

Hi all, can anyone with re-build experience on these pumps help with advice on any of the following please - For context I am re-building a P type pump from a '91 K2500 4x4 OBD, with a 350 vortec and serpentine drive belt. Appear to have lost pressure in the steering system ( replaced pitman...

    Electronic Shift NP203/NP205 Doubler

that's funny cos I am building a doubler for our 4x4 trail rig. The fact that it has an extra 2 levers is a plus. Its also a manual, and hope to have a level engaged pto. / winch, front and rear that would make for at least 6 sticks. figured that would be a good theft deterrent ... however its...

    Two owner flatbed

welcome and 11 out of 10 for the impressive photo load out on your intro post. Most common call out here is "post pics", however you've covered that in spades. Great inspiration for the rest of us with the project "still sitting in the barn waiting on parts .. "

    Hi from Australia

hey, welcome from VIC ! The most desireable sqbody will be the one with the least rust ! Doesen't matter what year, as so much is interchangeable, so you can build whatever you need once you have a decent rig. I prefer the older ones ( look better ), and also have less smog stuff and computers...

This one needs to go, asking for opinions. Offering it up here first.

FWW my daughter just looked over my shoulder and absolutely loves / wants the truck ( starts driving with dad on her b'day in Dec ! ). We got her a "ute" as a first vehicle, but at least its a v8 manual 5k is a joke, would be more like $20K over here, even in that condition. You would be lucky...

To remove or not to paint frame?

I get everything blasted at a "local" industrial paint place. They do large stuff like frames and suspension arms OK, but are not interested in fiddly small parts ( I need a blast cabinet for those I think. I get them to zinc primer everything to prevent flash rust, and then finish paint when I...

    Hej From a newbie :)

valkomna. I spent some time in Malmo ( back before they built the bridge, and you had to take the ferry for a beer..!). What is the history of GM in Sweden? Did they build / sell chevy trucks there, or are they all imports from the US ?? I dont remember seeing any, only Volvo, Saab and VW !!

    Whatcha do with that...?

we keep everything except old gaskets and seals etc. When you have to double the price due to the exchange rate, and then double again for shipping and import duties, you cant afford not to. everything is rebuild able ( thats why we are in to this stuff in the first place right ). I'll die in a...
