    72 Monte Carlo project

Here is my 72 Monte Carlo project. I'm the 3rd owner of it. I built a 414 ci Big Block with a Lunati Voodoo cam, lifters, springs kit, new oversized Ferrea SS valves, Holley Street Demon 750cfm carb, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Hooker Competition ceramic big tube headers, Pypes SS 2-1/2"...

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.

How do you know that the engine has solid or hydraulic lifters? Have you ran the VIN number on the right side of the block just in front of the head? I don't remember GM ever installing a mechanical cam and lifters in a sbc engine in a pickup. They installed them in certain HP small block and...

    Which aftermarket LED headlights?

I just installed these nice and bright LED headlights on my 72 Monte Carlo. They look exactly like my Harley headlight, except for the halo ring.

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.

No, that's not the correct way to check valve clearance on hydraulic lifters. If you are able to have the engine running, I remove one valve cover at a time and start the engine and let it idle. Then I back off one rocker nut at a time until it starts ticking. Then I slowly run it back in until...

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.

Before you pull the heads, just go through and readjust the valves. If you have an intake valve that's too tight, it can stay open and cause a backfire through the carb. After you get to zero lash, I usually just go 1/2 turn more on the rockers. Service manual used to call for 1 full turn, but...

    Mirror replacement

I see 4 post brackets everywhere, and the shorter 3 post brackets online, but nothing like the super long 3 arm brackets you have.

    Mirror replacement

You said your posts are fine, so I thought you would at least be able to get the new mirror heads and mounting arm.

That looks awesome Bruce! I need to get a new dash pad for my 75 K10 and now you got me thinking that I need to look and see if it's the light or dark Saddle color.

    75 Chevy SWB 4x4

legopnuematic, That turned out awesome and it looks great! My headliner is vinyl, but it will be getting a saddle cloth one here soon. My pickup came with a huge sunroof, but at least it doesn't leak.

Exhaust pipe kits from @mazon/ eBay

I bought a mandrel bent stainless steel Pypes Performance exhaust system for my 72 Monte Carlo, and it sounds and looks great. Exhaust system you is something you shouldn't cheap out too much on, otherwise, you'll be doing it again more sooner than later when the system rusts or breaks.

BBC 396 wil not idle with any carb

I just built a 414 cu in (.60 over factory 402) BB Chevy in my 72 Monte Carlo. I have a Lunati Voodoo cam, lifters, valve springs, 1.7 roller rockers, 2.19 and 1.88 Ferrea oversized Stainless valves, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, a 750 Street Demon Holley carb, and Hooker Competition Ceramic...

    75 Chevy SWB 4x4

Thanks Bucket! That does give those colors a big positive aspect. My grandfather had a 77 Chevy longbed 4x4 in Grecian Bronze with a white top in the 80's, but it was an old farm pickup truck. I wish I would have thought about keeping it when he passed away in March of 1990.

    75 Chevy SWB 4x4

Does anyone on here have a 75 Chevy SWB 4x4 in the factory 61 Grecian Bronze and 12 Frost White in the middle two-tone paint on their pickup? Also, if you have saddle color interior, some interior pics would be great too. If so, could you please post some photos of it? I have looked online...

Bench seatback foam from LMC - anyone else installed it?

WOW! That definitely sounds like a huge PITA! But once it's done, is has to be a very rewarding and satisfying experience to have it look and feel better than new when sitting on the seat now.

    What year bed is this

Like others have said, 79 was the first year for fuel doors on the square body pickups. When I had a 74 Cheyenne Super SWB 4x4, I bought a super clean 84 bed and put on it. It looked really nice on it after it was all done.
