    The last pre-emmisions diesel

What Grit dog said. For $75 he's doing a cylinder contribution test. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not necessarily definitive. I'd also agree that at 200K miles it's unlikely that original injectors are still 100%. If you feel more comfortable with 1% balanced injectors, you go right...

    The last pre-emmisions diesel

For starters, we don't get involved in hot-rodding. So whatever "uprated" products are out there, you're going to have to take their word for it. Bosch factory remans for '03-'04.5 are almost $400 ea. without the connectors. If you're just doing this as a precaution and you're not going racing...

What have you done to your square lately??

Some of them had a vacuum switch that would indicate a restricted filter by illuminating the water in fuel light. The switch is sealed to the housing with an O-ring, and in time they will leak. Easy fix, pull the housing off the firewall, undo the clip that holds the switch in and change the...

Glow plug relay? Or controller? Short cycle

You may do better to measure voltage on the solenoid with it energized. Something that experiences a lot of arcing like the contacts on a solenoid may not show continuity with the low amperage that a multi-meter can supply, but may still work with real current.

Am I crazy to expect more than 10 MPG

Not crazy, but perhaps overly optimistic.

Glow plug relay? Or controller? Short cycle

I don't have time to reread all if that to see what your exact symptoms were, but the glowplugs will short-cycle a few times after start and they will short-cycle after the wait light goes out if the engine isn't cranked. Hope that helps.

What new tools have you got lately?

My neighbor just tossed one of those heaters. Scavenger that I am, I grabbed it from the curb and took it apart. Air pump was grenaded. So, I "invested" $20 between a pump and a filter kit. It took a few other tweaks. Like putting the burner can in an arbor press to square up the baffle...

Glow plug relay? Or controller? Short cycle

Glow plugs are only for cold starting, so they should not come on when the engine is warm. You'd need a schematic to see if there is a separate cutoff switch like the later systems. I don't believe there is. I always thought these had it built in to the controller, but I have an '85 as well, so...

Glow plug relay? Or controller? Short cycle

If it's an original '82 he's going to have the earlier style controller/sensor with the divorced relay. I have a couple of these kicking around if you need one.

    Tailgate badging

Either DIESEL6.2L or ESC are the ones I've seen most often. There may be something else like Camper Special that went on some of them as well.

Glow plug relay? Or controller? Short cycle

'82 would have had the multi-pin controller screwed into a port in one of the heads. I have a few of tbose kicking around if you need one. The glowplug light on the dash is directly connected to the circuit, so if it's coming on the glowplugs are on. Like @ital83 said they put a pretty...

Looks nice. Will that do Weather Pack and Metri-Pack connectors that GM is so fond of?

What have you done to your square lately??

Maybe a baffle in the valve cover. Present on only one side or missing one?

What have you done to your square lately??

Ouch. I picked up a bare Olds 455 block once but it was to move it in and out of a parts washer. Not off the deck. That was enough for me. I've developed a lot of techniques for lifting heavy objects now. None of them involve my back.

    1977 C10 Police Truck

I had a T-shirt that I picked up on spring break (gawd, how long ago was that?) that said T&A Patrol. I think my wife threw it out. But there's another possibility for U.

    1977 C10 Police Truck

An acquaintance had a boat they named "Wild Life Management." It provoked a lot of reaction. But obviously a sport fishing boat doesn't look like an LE craft either. Just saying there may be a way to play with the concept without invoking the jealousy of the title-power people.

    1977 C10 Police Truck

Maybe paint it OD green or camo like Enviro Police and put Wild Life Management on the door. Go with geeen lights or something that means nothing to nobody. Check your local laws. ;)

    Sandblasting advice needed.

As stated, lots depends on the media and pressures. I don't think that residue is a huge concern. It's not an oil pan. However if it is, look into dry ice blasting. Another thing. If the bed liner is kind of rubbery, it's hard to strip with most media blasting. Also, what kind of shape is the...

Auto or manual locking hub ?

You're right. It's much less pronounced with the transfer case disengaged. I still pick up a sense of uneven motion at steering lock, but it's probably more drag than actual binding. Maybe I need U-joints or something.

Auto or manual locking hub ?

You just reminded me.... Tight turns with locked hubs, truck no likey. Trying to get the wheels to turn at such different rates while they're attached to a differential makes for a lot of binding and hopping. So there's a minor downside to keeping hubs locked.

Auto or manual locking hub ?

Same here as most of the advice given. It depends on your usage. I mostly use the 4WD for snow and other poor traction conditions. Auto hubs for me all day. The only time I've ever had an issue was once when I used the wrong grease. Hi Temp grease makes them hang up in the cold and not unlock...

Please help me figure out this noise! Video included.

Unless you're hot rodding things the auto hubs don't usually fail because they're "weak" they fail from lack of maintenance. Why don't you try taking them apart and see what kind of shape they are in? Often they can be brought back with a good cleaning and fresh grease.

What new tools have you got lately?

Yes. It replaces a pickle fork with a press. Try to keep up. P.S. A pickle fork is a ball joint separator.
