100 Square Bodies being auctioned off Sat June 25th Online.

This may be the only time anyone sees that many Gentleman Jims in one place. The Casa Grande is a rare sight in itself. I'm honestly curious to see what the more common, run of the mill trucks go for. Special editions and rare variations are always fetching high prices, but the selling price of...

    700R4 nightmares

You don't need 1 ton axles for low gears, though they do have much stronger internals. My Jeep has them crammed into the factory Dana 30 front and AMC 20 rear. With that being said, there are plenty of low geared 1/2 tons and smaller SUVs that survive just fine with their factory axles. Unless...

    700R4 nightmares

I have a Jeep with 35 inch wheels, and a 4:56 rear end. It is plenty powerful, though it is equipped with a 4 speed manual, so RPMS remain at a constant high. If you go that low of gear, I recommend at least a five speed transmission.

    Frame Rivet Replacement

How were the factory rivets installed? Was there some sort of hydraulic press jig? I have seen people set rivets pretty well with an air hammer, but I assume a car plant would have something a little more advanced. I'm sure quality grade 8 hardware will hold just as good or better as factory...

    Q jet loses prime.

I toyed with the idle/air adjustment, and now it seems to fire right up everytime. I think it was too lean the entire time. The idle seems kind of high now, but that might just be the nature of the beast.

    Noted.

    Dually

The lack of emblems and moldings is evidence of a repaint. Beware of excessive use of fiberglass and hidden rust/rot underneath.

    700R4 nightmares

If you go the NV4500 route, it will be easier If you get one out of a GM truck it will pretty much be a bolt on affair for either a small block or an LS (transfer case will likely need an adapter though). A Dodge one can be adapted to fit too though. You will also likely need new drive shafts...

    700R4 nightmares

True, though I've thought converting an automatic to a semi-automatic kind of defeated the purpose of having an automatic in the first place.

    700R4 nightmares

If you don't care about fuel economy, and want an automatic that is practically bulletproof, the TH400 is the way to go. The lighter duty TH350 is pretty durable as well, with the right upgrades. They are also pretty straightforward to install, since a vacuum line, and shift linkage is all that...

    Q jet loses prime.

When I disconnect the fuel line from the carb, and crank the engine, fuel shoots out. I think the carb is likely more at fault than the fuel delivery system. I won't rule out the possibility though, the rubber is certainly old enough to have developed a few cracks.

    Q jet loses prime.

The unfortunate thing is that the carb before this one was a rebuild as well. I guess my choices are either keep playing the rebuild lottery, pay a premium for a quality rebuild, rebuild my current junk, or just buy a modern 4 barrel carburetor and all associated adapters.

    Q jet loses prime.

This is a remanufactured unit I picked up the other day, I'd like to think it isn't broken already. Have remanufactured carbs really gotten this bad in quality?

    Q jet loses prime.

I drew a blue arrow pointing to the area where the fuel weeps sometimes.

    Q jet loses prime.

Upon further investigation, it looks like fuel is running leaking out right on the passenger side of the carb. Is this a result of a well plug leak or something else. My gasket is plenty tight....

    Q jet loses prime.

On top of a mid '80s 305, I have a mid '70s q jet With a divorced choke (the choke isn't hooked up at the moment.). I have confirmed that the mechanical fuel pump works, but the truck won't start unless I dump gas in the carb first. Within a few hours everything in the carb leaks back into the...

Best method for removing rattle can paint on top of factory paint?

Ouch, didn't realize paint spiked in price so much. What's a good source for reasonably priced OEM colors?

Best method for removing rattle can paint on top of factory paint?

It looks like the rattle can paint was actually an attempt by a previous owner to hide the paint that was already missing. Unlike him though, I prefer the scars of Mother nature and Father time over Bubba's sad attempt to hide it. I will eventually repaint the truck. For now I'll just prep the...

Best method for removing rattle can paint on top of factory paint?

I put a generous coat of citristrip on it and attacked with the pressure washer. It's not pretty by any means (the black and gray blotches are the underlying primer).I honestly think its a step above what it was before.

    1 Ton with a 10' foot bed

It likely started life as a chassis cab utility truck that someone later installed a homemade stretched fleet side bed on. People often buy retired utility trucks from auctions and do creative things like this with them.

    No gas to carb

It's possible that you could've vapor locked it when you introduced air to the system by opening your fuel lines. If you aren't sucking air anywhere in the system with everything put together, dumping fuel straight into the carb and letting the engine run until your fuel stream comes back...

    No gas to carb

Before you dig deeper, you should double check the mechanical fuel pump function. It's possible the fuel is just stopping at your carb. I've ran into this issue myself. 1.Unhook the fuel line feeding the carb, and put something over the end of it (plastic bag, condom, etc.) Make sure to wrap...

Best method for removing rattle can paint on top of factory paint?

As a toddler I once got caught trying to "buff" my mother's red Impala with a hand rake (It was sitting by the car, so I assumed that's what it was for.) Fortunately, my dad caught me before I did more than a scratch on the fender, he wasn't very happy. Let's just say, I didn't do that again...

Can you change door glass with a broken power window motor?

After tearing the door down down, it appears the motor was fine, and it was actually the switch all along. Good thing I checked this before I bought a motor. The passenger side is still won't open, but at least I'll be able to keep the side of the cab dry now.

Best method for removing rattle can paint on top of factory paint?

@bucket, @Grit dog Thanks for the advice. I thought 400 grit seemed a little on the rough side. I'll get some finer grit and some lacquer thinner and experiment a little. I don't think there is going to be a pristine paint underneath this, but at this point anything is an improvement over what...
