Definitive interchangeable parts thread 73-87(91) (non-drivetrain)

The post ‘81 offset logo tailgates are also lighter in overweight. The center recessed portion of this style seems to have more an aggressive angular appearance while the 73-80 gate center stamp had a more gentle slope like appearance. Because of these shape differences, trim made for one style...

Definitive interchangeable parts thread 73-87(91) (non-drivetrain)

Perhaps the presence of vent cutouts on non-ac truck pads depended on year. It would make sense for GM to transition installing vent cut pads into everything regardless of whether or not it has vents for the sake of logistics. This reminds me that I have also seen a unique looking pad in some of...

Definitive interchangeable parts thread 73-87(91) (non-drivetrain)

Thanks, I added those year changes to the OP. As for the dash vents, I was referring to the pad. I have never seen a metal dash frame that was not cut for vents. If ventless dash frames do exist (If anyone here has seen one, please chime in), I suppose a few minutes with a small cut-off wheel...

Definitive interchangeable parts thread 73-87(91) (non-drivetrain)

In this thread we can try to make a list of what fits what or what modifications are needed for something to work or look "correct." This is mainly for body panels, door parts, interior bits etc. Due to the somewhat modular/adaptable nature of drivetrain components, I am not really going to...

R12 to 134. Whats really needed to do this swap for a great working system. All parts needed?

What is the oldest original system you’ve done this too? Did you add PAG oil or just use whatever linseed oil remained in the system? Did you have to adjust/replace the low pressure switch? I’m not criticizing your methods, I’m just genuinely curious.

R12 to 134. Whats really needed to do this swap for a great working system. All parts needed?

The simplest way to go from 12 to 134 without major modifications is to remove all oil and refrigerant from the system, replace the black O rings with green ones, put port adapters on the drier and high pressure line, put PAG oil in place of the linseed oil, and replace the low pressure switch...

R12 to 134. Whats really needed to do this swap for a great working system. All parts needed?

Most things pre 1995 are going to be R12. R12 was the industry standard during the entirety of square body production.

    R12 Replacement

I had an 07 Dodge Ram 3500 that I had to change one twice in, and 98 Dodge Ram 1500 that I had to replace once. I think the only reason I had to the 07 twice was because I made the rookie mistake of reusing a drier. The majority of other leaks I’ve dealt on all other vehicles are almost always a...

    R12 Replacement

With a factory R12 systems, either pay the premium for actual R12 or just do a 134a retro fit. There are some factory R4 compressors from the the mid ‘90s that used 134a from the beginning, so it’s very much possible. Just ensure that all the O rings are replaced with the correct style, the...

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

Skinny wheels can be made to look nice too. You should be able to get away with using 33 inch tires on stock or stock sized wheels without having to resort to shaving and lift kits.

    ‘83 ‘84 GMC Grille on eBay @Streetdreamer

After seeing these prices, it’s depressing to think about how many decent ones likely got tossed into the dumpsters back in the day to install those cheesy JC Whitney grilles that look like they belong on a commercial AC unit rather than a truck. Hindsight is always 20/20 I suppose.

Clear coating over patina: anybody done it?

Punch a hole in the power steering feed hose and the engine bay will shine itself up. Lol One day on my ‘85 C10 I noticed it took every thing I had to back to get out of my parking spot. When I opened the hood, the power steering pump was dry but the engine bay looked the freshest it had been...

TH350C/700R4 yoke weep hole: To plug or not the to plug?

Interesting. Another thing I’ve learned is that there are Mopar automatic transmissions that have the same kind of weep hole such as the 48rfe on third gen Dodge Ram 2500/3500 pickups. Clearly GM is not the only ones to decide to use this odd vent mechanism. Granted, the inconsistent usage of...

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

Totally agree. I’ve had a few as well driven the GMT900s and post 2013-2019 “K2” trucks. I still prefer the 800 to both of them. The 800 is new enough to have an engine engineered specifically for TBI use and not just a retrofitted small block like the late production squares and GMT-400s had...

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

I ran some 34 inch super swampers on some PY0s once. Being a GMT800, I had to put a leveling kit on the front end and shave the bumper skirt a little. The truck handled like a boat at highway speeds but the stance looked awesome and that truck could make it through mud holes and ditches that it...

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

I like the factory Rally wheels a lot aside from only being available on 1/2 tons. I will say that the trim ring retainer tabs have been the bane of my existence in some cases. I’m about to just rtv one on. Odds are I’ll be able to rip the trim ring back off when it’s time to change tires again.

TH350C/700R4 yoke weep hole: To plug or not the to plug?

As much as I hate resorting to “unauthorized fixes” I might just make an exception for this. I just wish I knew why it is set up this way in the first place. It’s weird how only the full size trucks have this and not the various cars of similar vintage. Does towing generate more pressure in that...

TH350C/700R4 yoke weep hole: To plug or not the to plug?

New update: After about a week and a half, the yoke weep hole leak has returned, though the puddle is much smaller. I don’t know if I should just plug it or live with it. The amount of fluid lost seems pretty marginal but it’s very annoying regardless.

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

Now that I think about it, GM always seemed to limit the 8 lug stylish options on older trucks. There was never a factory 8 lug Rally or aluminum wheel on the squares and never an 8 lug “saw tooth” on the GMT400s.

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

if you’re unsure if a wheel is aluminum or polished steel, and magnet will let you know instantly. Aluminum isn’t magnetic.

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

The GMT800 era PY0s do look much better than the comparatively giant 18 inch and larger OEM wheels on newer trucks. My only real gripe about them is the little plastic guards on top of the lug nuts. They often strip and cheapen the look of an otherwise attractive wheel.

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

Those came factory on my 04 2500HD. They look great on that truck but look a little too busy on a square for my liking.

Does anyone make 17" aluminum 4x4 Rally wheels?

I’ve always preferred these. They heavily resemble the factory GM wheels that appeared on some of the higher trim five and six lug squares. They also have a center hole big enough to accommodate Warne style front lockers.

TH350C/700R4 yoke weep hole: To plug or not the to plug?

New update: It has been nearly a week and the transmission still seems to be holding its fluid after the O ring change. I guess I’ll leave the weep hole for now.
