Suburban Power Tailgate with new motor mod

Getting the spring tension right is a balancing act. If the window goes up slower than down, you need more tension. If the window goes up faster than down, you need less spring tension.

    Car Hauler tips/tricks/ideas

Lol, I can't imagine what would happen if I had tire covers on my trailers. I can guaran-damn-tee that I'd forget about them at night and move the trailer with them on.

Towing a diesel 2500 Burb on a 17’ flatbed trailer

Yeah, that's why I put my little disclaimer in there. There's a lot of variables that can play into it like road speed, the weight of the trailer itself, axle placement, hitch style and even the amount of slop in the hitch receiver. Sometimes you can get away with it, but most often it will be...

Suburban Power Tailgate with new motor mod

I've installed a few new window motors many years ago and there didn't seem to be poor engagement at all. They were motors bought from GM. Maybe it's an issue with the newer reman units?

    I would assume so.

With the 4x4 trucks, narrow front wheels will only do so much. The locking hubs still are the obstacle. You can either load the truck backwards (Yes, I know. Depending on the situation that's often not a good idea) or lay down planks of wood to drive over, so the hubs raise above the fenders.

Towing a diesel 2500 Burb on a 17’ flatbed trailer

We've had some (a lot actually) employees that turned out to be incredibly stupid. We build/modify a lot of our own equipment. One thing that I have learned is that you absolutely can not "idiot-proof" something. The dumb ones will always find a way to either f*ck something up or otherwise do...

Towing a diesel 2500 Burb on a 17’ flatbed trailer

I pulled my big block Suburban home on my little old trailer. Iirc, it was only 15 ft. and it did fine on the several hour drive. It was definitely a little tongue heavy, but not dangerous.

thread size for door lock knobs?

Yeah, otherwise they may come loose. Unless the truck is driven in reverse a lot.

@Catbox I love your reason for buying and continuing to own the Grand National center caps, lol. I can most definitely relate.

    Steering stabilizer K30 install

It all depends on the manufacturer of the stud. Some have more taper left sticking out than others.

It happened to me at 70 mph, the engine definitely spun a lot before it finally quit, lol. So are you supposin' that the OP's engine had lost a cam gear in the past, it tickled the valves a little, then it went unnoticed after the timing set was replaced? Certainly seems possible. @qwas37 What...

    Steering stabilizer K30 install

If the taper is fully seated, over torquing it will do no good at all. That stud ain't strong enough to reform the hole in the tie rod.

Yeah, that's definitely no fun when that happens. In my case, it started to sound a little more "lopey" at idle, then later that day, the ugliness reared it's ugly head. No bent valves though, all the exhaust pushrods took the bullet.

Why do you say that? It just seems like a common "I really don't want to figure this out for myself, so I'm going to join every forum I can find so they can tell me the answer" type of newbie and they probably forgot half the places they posted.

You are correct about the pushrods, they should be the same length. The 327 was still offered in '69 though.

    Suburban frame interchange

The Suburbans didn't change frame contours like the K5's did. The K5 frame contour and mount locations only changed in '78 to accommodate the addition of a foot well for rear seat passengers.

    8.1 vortec into 1979 k30

When I was looking at those in the Tremec booth at a show, there was something goofy about them that made it not ideal for a GM application. I don't recall if it was the input or output... it might have been a 29 spline output or something. They may offer more options now. I'm sure it's not...

Those are late model TPI heads. Not a fantastic head, but much better than the swirl port TBI heads of the same era, and also much better than the previous smog era heads. However, they are definitely compatible with your 327.

GM part number for door latches

I'm assuming that the part numbers were superceded a time or two, so looking for NOS latches is probably going to turn up a different number, depending on how old they are. I also would not be surprised if the earlier style handles were never sold over the counter, once the design was changed...

What parts specifically do you need help with locating? I'm assuming you must have removed all the hoses at the same time? It's too late now, but it's usually easier to replace one hose at a time. Also, are you just trying to get it running within 4 days, or do you have to get it emissions...
