First time "real" painting.
I just talked to a guy thats worked in a dealer body shop for 20 yrs. He said to leave it til Spring then sand it all with 220 - and apply my high build. So sounds like I'll be hand sanding til I puke. Only thing he mentioned that I question is my roof - I had bad oil canning and got it...- Doppleganger

Not much. Just heard this today, along with a '72 hr window' (was someone who does ALOT of higher end paint jobs too). I had always expected to have to scuff or sand it before high build primer, but never heard that it wont stick to 'cured' epoxy. WTF are you supposed to do - primer, seal, and...- Doppleganger

I just sprayed my cab with epoxy primer yesterday - first time I pulled a spray gun trigger in 30 yrs. I thought it came out fine. Today was told that I cannot paint over "cured" epoxy. ?! Never heard that before.- Doppleganger

What have you done to your square lately??
After 2 yrs of delays I finally got my cab into primer. Also sprayed the hinges and a block off panel for the passenger side firewall. I had drilled and reamed 2 random 1/8" holes in each hinge - makes the dowels a press fit to locate them back to their original location. Use a punch to tap them...- Doppleganger

late GMT400 interior lights wont shut off like a door is open.

Filling small holes without welding
I measured mine at .043 .....which is 19 ga. Its hard enough to buff a pop can let alone patch one with heat involved. Only thinner steel I ever messed with was a shop I worked at that stamped Honduh rear quarters, which was 22 ga (<.030). We had the presses turned down as low as they would...- Doppleganger

Filling small holes without welding
I used a stud welder. Stud is tapered on the end - 1/16 to 3/16. Holes are 1/8 (2/16). Set the stud in the hole and lit it up. Snipped the stem, ground the nub down. Nice little welded copper plugs. Still have 2 large holes on the firewall - ground down some fender washers to make perfect...- Doppleganger

My friend had a sugar issue. Would crash and he'd pass out. Happened at the wrong time when an electrical socket in his bedroom (original wiring - 1946) started to burn. No bad fire but lots of smoke. Thats what killed him. Didn't help he smoked like a train so his lungs were already...- Doppleganger

A friend of mine came by about a year ago - he'd been welding 40+yrs - and couldn't stop from turning small holes into bigger ones on the firewall using a Miller 110 welder I had - found out later the welder's wiring was bad so he (apparently) couldn't turn it down enough. I know the few articles I've seen on it, they always say to avoid the acid core. I've always had questions about the flux issue - would you apply it around the holes? IIRC the main thing was to preheat the area just enough to melt the solder but not warp or damage anything. PO had alot of...- Doppleganger

I have read in the past that you can fill small holes (like trim deleting) with solder and not have to mess with welding. Anyone done this and if so, does paint stick to it ok? I dont have a welder but do have some maybe 1/8" holes that need filled. Was figuring just using bondo but some metal...- Doppleganger
