    700R4 Information Thread

No vacuum lines should be going to the transmission as the 700R4s use a throttle valve system to manage/regulate line pressure inside the unit whereas the previous generations of transmissions (TH350/400, etc) used vacuum modulation for the same purpose. Based on your description of it's shift...

    Engine Swap Transmission Selection

#2. Or rebuild it yourself. See my 4L60E Information thread, page one for video instruction, parts lists, tech resources. Then jump to the very last page, most recent post for a video I published on all the tools/equipment you'll need. It would be criminally insane to pursue #3 if the...

    4L60E Information Thread (Includes 4L65/70/75)

Bumping this thread up with another 4L60E video. This one focuses on all the tools, supplies and equipment you'll want to have on hand to rebuild 700R4 and 4L60E transmissions...A great resource for anyone strongly thinking to take on this job! Enjoy and TIA for watching!

    TH350 Cooler Lines

Visit your local pick-and-pull junk yards...Bring a can of brake cleaner with you to flush the lines on the spot - that way you can determine if they're clogged up or not and clean/ready them for installation...

    1978 chevy 350 issue

Take the rocker arms, push rods and lifters out and inspect the cam lobes to see if they're wiped. You can also inspect the lifters, push rods and rockers at this time as well. Do it now while it's still on the stand and easy to work on...Let us know what you find.

Knocking noise in D and R after high revs

Awesome, man! Great to hear you'll be taking transmission building classes...You can get ahead in your studies, if you'd like by checking out my TH400 Information Thread, if you haven't already seen it. I have compiled quite a lot of info there, would be a good resource for you.

Knocking noise in D and R after high revs

You're welcome...given the converter came loose, you will want to inspect your Th400's front pump and bushing/seal once the engine and trans are both out. In fact, I'd overhaul the transmission completely if it hasn't been rebuilt in the recent past. This would be good to do especially if the...

Knocking noise in D and R after high revs

That's the correct spec, I believe. Some blue loctite on each bolt also helps. If they come loose again, replace the bolts & put blue loctite on the new ones. Also check the crank itself for any irregularites in that event. If they come loose a third time, either helicoil the converter threads...

Knocking noise in D and R after high revs

How tight in terms of lb ft did you torque the bolts? Did you inspect the threads at each mounting pad on the converter?

Maybe one or more of your TC-flexplate bolts has come loose. Whatever it is, fix it and let us know if you still hear/feel the knocking.

Thank you, Matt and likewise! Lot's of great folks on here that contribute and share their knowledge daily. Merry Christmas to all

Transgo kit 1&2 vs SK 400

Thanks, @Bloodhound1981 - I try to be as helpful as I can when on the forums. Thanks, Rick...Figured it was a one-off but if this how this guy acts towards other members all the time, he needs gone. I never thought having a Youtube channel made someone pretentious but I learn something new...

Transgo kit 1&2 vs SK 400

Maybe they're including viton/rubber D or O-ring seals for that location but every kit I've ever used for those had the cast steel sealing rings...Now that I think about it, I recall a couple kits I had used recently on TH400 builds that lacked a sealing ring for that location... I didn't need...

Transgo kit 1&2 vs SK 400

Unless you're deleting the 2-3 accumulator circuit, you'll need the sealing ring on that piston...Otherwise, you'll have a massive leak in the high gear apply circuit and direct clutch will burn. One should have come in the overhaul kit; they usually come packaged as part of a dedicated sealing...

The 4L75E has a billet 4th gear servo but looks like any other later 4L60E, apart from that. The TH375B is a beefier version of the TH350 but looks just like it while the 375 is the red-headed step child of the Turbo400 family and has a 27-spline output shaft but looks like a TH400 beyond that.

Transgo kit 1&2 vs SK 400

Yep, I thought I recall seeing you had the case assembled. Did you dual feed the direct clutch internally? If not, those instructions for your feed hole sizes are probably fine, assuming a stock stall torque converter and stock to mildly built engine (I think your truck will be used as a tow...

Transgo kit 1&2 vs SK 400

Lol, there's no point in doing so until I see his responses and, if he asks for such guidance, especially if the transmission is fully assembled and he doesn't want to take it back apart. Insofar as showing him what to do, I have my Youtube channel for that and can provide any one of several...

Transgo kit 1&2 vs SK 400

Do you still have the transmission apart or is it all together, except for the valve body, filter, gasket and pan? Also have you opened either of those shift kits yet? If not, perhaps you can return them if you're still within the return window...

The 4L75E is a crate HP 4L60E variant sold over the counter by GM as an alternative to the 4L80E where power levels exceed 600 but where a 4L80E will not fit without modifying the transmission tunnel, which usually not desiresble to do. To my knowledge, they were never a RPO.

    Which 4L80 for my swap

1999-2000 are optimal, IMO. 1997-98 are good; 2001+ are also fine but 1999-2000 had both the wider coast band (intro'ed in 1999) and first design overdrive roller one-way clutch assembly which has larger rollers than the 2001+ second design OD OWC.

    Rebuild th400 or 4l80e?

I personally have not had experience with those particular coolers but if you do buy one, I'd blow shop air through it to see if there's any manufacturing debris...If so, send it back...Had a customer once that bought a cooler from either Summit or Jegs and hooked it up to a 700R4 I had built...

I don't but maybe others on here do...You can also contact Dana Wilkes at Probuilt Automatics to see if he knows or the folks at Automatic Transmission Service Group. My 700r4 changes too early ?

You need to provide more information about your truck's set up as well as what has already been done to the governor, if anything. Is the engine stock or highly modified? Is this a daily/cruiser or do you have it set up for racing? Have you shimmed or blocked the TV limit valve in the valve...

    Passing gear cable

Bad geometry results in poor line rise which will lead to 3-4 clutch and/or 2-4 band failure...Here's some instructions to help you with getting the geometry right. If that cable is no good, replace it with a different cable though I would imagine you can get it set up correctly...Always verify...
