    TH400 Kick Down Solenoid

Confirm modulator function (vac at modulator, modulator health, modulator valve condition/freedom of movement, etc). If you've already confirmed all of the above, drop the valve body and check the detent and detent regulator valves for freedom of movement. They like to get stuck as the VB...

    1986 Automatic Transmission Leak

Yep, that is also a good possibility. Looks like its the right size. Either that location or the throttle plunger sleeve. Plugging one of those holes allows for WOT 3-4 upshifts.

I like those pans; you can clean them in the hot tank or power wash them if need be, will get them very clean. Here's an example of a composite gasket (Dodge 47RE shown in pic but 4L60E gasket is identical in terms of construction). They are a couple bucks at your local transmissiom parts...

Tq converter for 5.3 ls swap in a 700r4

Be very wary of reman transmissions by large companies that spend all their money on advertising/marketing. Ive torn apart hundreds of them over the year, lots of corners are cut. Rebuild your 700R4 properly. The $2500-$3000 you were quoted is consistent with what Id charge for one built to...

    TH350 issues

Not normal at all; you're having delayed engagements which can be caused by vacuum leaks. These vac modulated transmissions need/rely on a consistent vacuum signal to function properly. So find and fix any vacuum leaks and see if your delayed engagements resolve. Also, put a vacuum gauge on...

    1986 Automatic Transmission Leak

@KDizzle - was just a guess, hard to tell or get a sense of scale for that object in your initial pics as there are no known objects like bolts or nuts in the photo. Still looks like a rivet or perhaps a small bore plug of some sort but exactly what it is, IDK ATM.

    1986 Automatic Transmission Leak

You need to either quote my post or mention me if you want a timely response as I don't get notifications for subsequent posts in any thread i post in (that's intentional). Check the pawl facing end of your parking rod - that thing in the pan could be the riveted portion of the rod...If that's...

I never use cork gaskets; they always leak. If you cant get it to stop leaking after x amount of rounds of re-torquing the bolts, replace it with a composite gasket (dont use rubber gasket either, unless it is a bonded/moulded rubber gasket with a steel core.

    1986 Automatic Transmission Leak

You dont need the tool if the pan is already off. Just take loose the 15mm selector shaft to rooster comb nut with a 15mm wrench, tap the rooster comb towards the valve body, pry the band style spacer off the selector shaft with a flat blade screw driver then withdraw the shaft. Then remove the...

    TransGo shift kit install...

@hey mister - Install a high-flow screen-style filter instead of the cloth-type...Those tend to clog up a bit...Not a huge concern now since you just replaced it but next time you drop the pan for any reason, swap that filter out for the screen type.

    TransGo shift kit install...

You're welcome...Those aren't Torlon so wouldn't use either set; check balls aren't supposed to be compressible - if they wear sufficiently, they will get stuck in the plate (I've seen that on other transmissions w/those style of check balls)...The Torlon check balls are a mocha-colored brown...

    TransGo shift kit install...

The plastic check balls are likely torlon and wont wear the check ball seating locations like the steel ones do - good to have them in there. Replace your 2-3 acc piston, if it's plastic, with an aluminum one. If an aluminum one is already installed, check the pin bore for wear. If excessive...

    TransGo shift kit install...

I know the kit doesn't require removal. I asked because if you had it on the bench you DO NOT NEED to spend any $$$ on a shift kit to achieve the performance you're seeking. You can dual feed the direct clutch internally, recalibrate for shift speed/firmness relative to converter stall, etc via...

What transmission? Are you going through it or is it still in the vehicle?

    1987 R10: TH400 to 200-4R swap (mostly wiring??)

The wiring going to your TH400 is for the detent solenoid. The 200-4R takes a lock up converter (converter with a clutch inside of it). You will need to install a TCC internal/external lock up kit to ensure the converter clutch is applied in 4th gear. Painless Performance, B&M and TCI make...

    Corvette servo

Do the vette servo ($20) and drill the plate .093" if the engine/converter are stock. Run the billet 4th gear servo if you want to do some towing in OD on a level grade. Make sure you set band clearance correctly - see my vid on how to do so:

Thanks, man - appreciate the views on YT. Automatic transmissions are marvels of mechanical engineering, IMO. Cheers!

    72 nova turbo 400 to 84 chevy k20 compatible?

Ah, forgot about those 205s...That said, unless he knows the history of that TH400 in the Nova, I still recommend he rebuild his K20's unit vs trying to swap in a used unit. not a fan of used transmissions in general...

    72 nova turbo 400 to 84 chevy k20 compatible?

As is? No as the 72 Nova is 2WD while the truck is a 4x4. You need to take the trans apart, install the correct output shaft for a 4WD application then reassemble it - which would be senseless for you to do given you can just rebuild the K20's TH400 of you're going to do all that.

    700R4

It's an early 1984 unit if it came with a forward drum w/a 27-spline input shaft. I never pay attn to the rest of the characters; for me they're meaningless. The first character (an integer) combined with the presence or absence of a large, upside down "U" shaped cast crease on pass side of the...

    th350 overhaul direct/forward clutch clearance

Of course I remember - I don't have Alzheimer's, at least not yet lol. Plus excessive clearance in that clutch was not likely the reason (or only reason) they burned up - the cause is likely multi-factoral). Yes, look into the .090 thick steels...If you have an addl two steels at .020" per steel...

    th350 overhaul direct/forward clutch clearance

I'm generally not a fan of stacking steels on top of each other as you have but I don't think it will hurt anything. There's also .090 thick steels available as well as the thicker backing plates, unless you already have five .090 thick steels installed...If so, that piston was prob machined as...
