What have you done to your square lately??

I am kind of aggravated, I had to replace my alternator. About 2 years and less then 5K miles ago I installed a (supposed to be) brand new, AC Delco alternator. From day one I thought it had bad bearings and over time it got worse and worse. Was squalling like hell at the end. Went back with...

What have you done to your square lately??

I truly think @bucket is right about the pump. I will add that since you mentioned the PO installed new pumps the two things I would be focused on would be: 1. What brand of pump did he install vs. what you are installing. 2. The ground wire connection which I know you are already concerned...

What have you done to your square lately??

The only thing you need to apologize for is for letting your wife decide whether or not you can use your garage to work on your truck. This thread is a perfect place to get help and advice from this forum. I personally would not let a woman decide what I could and could not do at the house I...

What have you done to your square lately??

We are tired of your negativity. This is a Can Do group. We expect results, we expect improvements and we do NOT want to hear (read) "I Can't". Grab a sawzall, a cutting torch, an 8" sidegrinder, grab a Stihl chainsaw if you have to. Cut that offending, restrictive, ugly, heavy power...

What have you done to your square lately??

@legopnuematic is correct and so are you. There is only one O2 sensor and it is upstream of the catalytic convertor. I simply meant that with the extra air pumping into the exhaust and no cat to burn the excess fuel you may hear some popping and backfiring. Mine did until I completely blocked...

What have you done to your square lately??

You won't gain much, possibly not even enough to feel. Unless of course it is badly plugged, which might actually be your entire problem. It will sound different...better or worse depends on your opinion. Since yours is TBI with the smog(air) pump you may get some other issues...you may not...

    2 inch Rough Country Lift 76 K10

I am running the factory pitman arm. Since I removed one leaf from the front stack of springs and my lift is actually about 2" my pitman arm is still pretty much level. I thought/think that a drop arm is not required until you get around 4" of lift. But I could be wrong.

    2 inch Rough Country Lift 76 K10

I had a very specific reason for staying with the blocks. The SoftRide springs would have made my truck ride better but I would have lost some carrying capacity. It was not about the money, although the rear springs are a lot more expensive than blocks. I use my truck as a truck from time to...

What have you done to your square lately??

I don't know how YOU would handle it but I know how I would handle it. Something like... "Your clothes and food budget just took a hit, I ordered some stuff that I need for My Truck. When it arrives don't let the package(s) sit on the front porch. You can take a break from your cleaning and...

What have you done to your square lately??

How perfect does it need to be? Would you actually know it wasn't right if you did not have that new monitoring system in place? I know that we all want our trucks to run the best that they can but sometimes close enough is...well, close enough. Of course if you can feel it stumbling or...

Take a look at the pic posted by @Strick on the previous page. That truck is a long bed but the connections are definitely under the bed on that truck. I believe it is an '87 also.

What have you done to your square lately??

I have ridden my motorcycle in your beautiful state and I have driven through part of it as well. But it was summer... I love to travel and I love this country. But I choose to live in a part of it that this rarely happens. I have no clue how you Northern Folks deal with this all winter...

What have you done to your square lately??

I looked at all the snow piled on the hood. Yes, snow. Why is that a Big Deal? I live in South Louisiana. We just got 7.5 inches of snow. That is the second highest amount ever recorded in this area. The only time we had more was in 1895. The '87 stays under my carport and normally gets a...

What have you done to your square lately??

@JamesSam I posted in our PM but for the rest of you, I am going to try to get a couple cell phone videos so he can hear my fuel pump priming prior to engine start and then see my injector spray pattern with the truck idling. That may help or may not... Not set up to post videos on the forum...

What have you done to your square lately??

@JamesSam when I bought The Truck the tanks had already been replaced. The PO told me they re-used the fuel pumps. Initially I felt that the RH tank must have a weaker pump than the LH tank but as time has passed I can tell no difference. You could have a switching valve issue, I am...

What have you done to your square lately??

The TBI injectors are basically just On/Off solenoid valves. The fuel pressure is created by the pump in the tank and is regulated by the regulator spring located in the rear top of the throttle body itself. GM used different size injectors for each engine. I cannot tell you which size is for...

What have you done to your square lately??

@JamesSam if you go with that Big Block TBI you are going to have to swap your injectors into it. I am not sure about the regulator spring. Have you done a rebuild of your existing TBI? It is not hard, the kit is not expensive and most folks report an improvement. You can watch a couple...

What have you done to your square lately??

I know you are trying to fix a problem and not trying to enhance performance but you can get a noticeable improvement if you set that timing a little above 0. Mine was a little above 8 degrees until I had to set it back to 0 for my chip. Just occurred to me that I got my chip from Brian Harris...

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

I am just Happy to be Here. And even happier to have this forum with its vast resources to help me keep my Old Truck running. I appreciate all of you. This is one subject where I can at least contribute some knowledge. I will leave the complicated stuff to those of you who are good at it.

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

I am not positive on this and I know someone will correct me... The system on the '87 TBI is Very Primitive. If there is no check engine light (the OP did not say he was getting one) then there is no code to read and no information to be read by a scanner tool. If there was a check engine...

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

I have typed this a few times on this forum so I apologize to those that are tired of reading it. In 1987 there was no internet, there were magazines and there were rumors. GM had been installing TBI on the Camaro and Firebird for a few years, TPI was already on IROCs and Trans Ams but the...

Dexron II or Manual Transmission Oil??

Is this what your shift knob looks like? My truck is an '87 and it had gear oil from the factory. And it currently has gear oil. My transfer case had ATF from the factory and that is what I put back in it.

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

From personal experience with an '87 TBI... You can run a few degrees of advance on the timing. I was somewhere around 8 degrees until I set it back to zero for the installation of the stage 1 chip. There was originally an air pump that injected air into the exhaust manifolds to help the...

Nv3500 into an 86 k10, but not a normal swap.

I don't have any answers but I am really happy to see you posting here again! I had that transmission in a '95 GMC and I loved it. It would certainly be a more useful and modern transmission in your '86. Sorry I am no help with your problems.
