    Floor and rocker options

WOAH. That is NOT how it should be lol. Somebody replaced that floor but didn't have a welder and bolted it to the cross rails and everything else. Holy cow I've never seen anything like that  This is what it should look like. The only bolts should be across the front edge (and they're...

whats every body using.. looking for a new stereo head unit

Admittedly, mine was an older model. Idk how old, it was in the truck when I bought it but I had the book and there was no adjustment for this one. It was the Concours Series USA-230 (I'm actually looking at the book now lol, my buddy that bought it from me forgot to grab the book). Our shop...

whats every body using.. looking for a new stereo head unit

Yeah, it's AWFUL. I would drive with my hand blocking it some nights. I'd thought about cutting a piece of window tint to go over it but never did. Might try that for the shop truck. With the console build, I seriously mulled over just leaving that unit as a dummy in the dash and hiding a...

    LS regasket question

It's really a crap shoot. I've seen so many different ways that guys swear by. Like I said, I wouldn't take anything I said as gospel cuz I've failed at keeping leaks at bay so far lol. But the way I outlined above is following the book step by step, so that's probably what I'd stick to. Take...

Looking for new tailgate. 85 K5 Blazer.

They also changed the shape of the inset for '81-up. This means later tailgate bands can go on the early 'gates fairly easily but to put an early trim band on a later 'gate takes some modification because it's backer support is shaped different (it's mainly much wider) than the '81-up version...

Looking for new tailgate. 85 K5 Blazer.

From the outside, they all look the same. The main issue is the latch style, '73-76 is the "wedge plate" style. Then mid-year '76 they changed to the later style and kept that all the way through '87 This is the early style, '76-down. The gold truck is our early '76 shop truck: This is...

Looking for new tailgate. 85 K5 Blazer.

I was talking about the tailgate trim band. That's a '73-80 trim band, the '81-up has a black border all the way around it inset ~1/2" from the edges. The '73-80 has a top and bottom raised ridge and is solid stainless all the way across. This is an '81-up

What would you pay for this truck?

Square's have to be two-tone IMHO, solid colors just don't do it for me. I originally was looking for the dark blue/silver combo but ran across my truck on FB marketplace, I'd never seen the dark/light blue combo in my life and had to have it. I've since seen quite a few, but that combo is still...

What would you pay for this truck?

Not something to be worried about, there's a bajillion of these things, especially long beds. That's originally what I was shopping for, a nice longbed that I was going to cut down. Then I stumbled upon my truck, fell in love with the color combo and HAD to have it. Turns out it was a longbed...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Thankfully, they seem to be. I just quickly inspected them last night, I'll inspect them much closer as I install them. Thankfully I have 12 extras in case any of these are damaged

whats every body using.. looking for a new stereo head unit

Just for more info, here's the glow I was talking about lol. Our '76 shop truck has the same radio in it. I HATE these things

    Floor and rocker options

For the trucks, a full floor replacement would be the next step. Hopefully the same in the future for the K5s as well

    Floor and rocker options

Yeah, it's hard to cover every different situation. Where do you draw the line of making patch panels vs whole floors, ya know? That was long before I was involved in R&D but I don't think I'd change it, it'd be very hard to make a single panel much larger because of all the different contours...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Then repeated the process on the other side. We've got an engine boys! Ate some dinner and then tackled installing the Circle D converter. Put a bit of grease on the o-ring on the shaft, topped off the fluid, got it balanced on my legs, rolled under the truck, sat up in between the...

    LS regasket question

I didn't buy a new front cover, replaced that seal on the bench. But the rear cover, there's way more failures replacing just the seal than buying the cover with the seal already installed. Several of my performance shop buddies WILL NOT do a rear main without doing the whole cover. The Dorman...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

So after work yesterday, I started back on the heads again. Made sure to put the lifter retainer bolts in and torqued, then re-cleaned the head bolt holes out real good. Then cleaned the pass side head and the block gasket surfaces real good one more time, aligned the head gasket and head...

    LS regasket question

My buddy brought me his alignment tool set. Just a note, the rear alignment tool doesn't work if you bought the Dorman or GM plate with the seal already installed, it's designed to align the plate AND THEN install the seal. Same with the front, at least in this kit. I don't like the idea of...

    Thornbird or Super Swampers?

Yeah, we always called them ThornTurds cuz they weren't particularly good at anything. If the main goal is cool looking tires but you also want them to be halfway decent, Nitto Trail Grapplers are some of my favorite tires. I've had several sets and they wear well, they're great on the road...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Ended up not working on this yesterday, I remembered I'd bought the alternator for the C10 at the Orielly's by my house, so I left work at the normal time. They warrantied it, so that truck's back in business now. Wasn't happy with the paint on the engine/VCs, was supposed to be "Chevy...

    Thornbird or Super Swampers?

Exactly what he said^ These are gonna have all of these issues: "Concerns: Noise, bad road manners, short tread life." If you're concerned with it, find some modern tires you like. They'll ride better

Auto wiper lifters to save edge

Ohhh I see. Yeah, that's not what's causing the chatter. All blades are designed to sit that way when off, there's no way around it and it doesn't affect their function. I'd say a tweaked arm, weak springs or schmutz on the windshield is what causes the chatter

Here's what I mean by holding the straight edge at an angle, you wanna get as much on the pan itself and the out to the ears of the bellhousing mounting area and have that true as possible
