    Rear axle replacement

Count the teeth on the ring gear. Divide that number by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. That will give you ratio, ie. 3.07, 3.42, 3.73, 4.10:1 etc.

    Hickey Push Bar

As far as I know, no one is making a guard for square trucks now. For a search also use "brush guard". Make one yourself or pay someone to make it. Buy a used truck with the guard, remove the guard, re-sell the truck. :hands:

Cab swap years and also cab removal.

No crazy contraption. Strip the cab, leave the windshield and rear glass in. Four people lift the cab and set one side on the ground and the other side up on the frame. Then two of us climbed onto the frame, all four lift and move the cab across the frame to the side. Trans, transfer case and...

Chevy Replacement Grill with 350 emblem option

@Strick Yes, the '73 & '74 have the open three hole grilles. The '75 has the same grille as the '76. I wish I had one of these pictures for the GMC's: I put a 1973 454 emblem in the grille of my '98 3500HD:

    Unusual radio issue

Thinking about this for a day, here is what might happen. In my 2006 GMT800, when you turn off the key, the radio stays on until you open the door. Many newer vehicles are that way. If you don't open the door, the radio will turn off after 5 or 10 minutes. So a newer radio, like a Retro Sound...

More gear pattern pic. This time it’s for my rear set

Remember, this is the drive side: The drive side, most important, coast side, not so much. The pinion could be a little deeper, because the pattern runs off the edge. Are these used gears? The pattern is good, run it!

    7.4 tbi overheating

There were 2 different fan clutches also. Thermo and centrifugal. The thermo type needs to be mounted close to the radiator. They also work different. Thermo type freewheels (still spins) until it locks with heat. The centrifugal is locked until a certain speed, then it unlocks. (also still spins)

    Radiator Support Body Mounts

Yes this, and there were 2 different sizes for the rear tall mounts, may have changed sooner, 1978?

    7.4 tbi overheating

Another thought, do you have the correct water pump? Serpentine belt spins one way, "V" belt drive spins the opposite way. They each have a different impeller.

    7.4 tbi overheating

The thermostat will not open with hot air. If there is an air pocket in the engine it will be at the top by the thermostat. Several ways to fix this. Fill the engine with coolant through the thermostat hole, then complete the assembly. Easy way, drill a small bleed hole in the thermostat...

305 SBC vs 6.2 Detroit: Which would you rather?

Yes, I know. I really liked the old green leakers we had in the fleet back in the 1970's into the '80's. Low RPM torque engines

305 SBC vs 6.2 Detroit: Which would you rather?

The why, hot expanded gases need more room to free flow. When cooled, less area is needed to flow, keeping the same back pressure as the super heated gas.

    Front Fender Well Inspection Covers?

Yes. That larger bolt is one of three bolts on each side of the front end assembly. So six bolts, the 2 on each inner fender, 2 up on the top edge of the cowl and the last 2 in each front door jam. Removing all six of those bolts, and the two bolts with the rubber body mounts under the radiator...

Gear pattern pics. Need some input?

Gear tooth patterns: Good ^^ Pinion not deep enough, move pinion in. Pinion too deep, move out. You do not want to move your pinion out. The drive side as shown, is the important pattern. Don't worry about the coast side. If anything you could move the pinion in, but your pattern is...

305 SBC vs 6.2 Detroit: Which would you rather?

Real trucks have 6 in a row, so they will go. If the Detroit you speak of is a 2 stroke, I'm with you. We had 6.2's in the fleet back in the day. They clocked a lot more shop time, I'll repeat, a lot more shop time than the trucks with spark plugs.

Small block to big block swap. What do i need to know?

Parts you can use from the small block: The distributor, the alternator, and the metal engine mounts. The rubber engine mounts are different and they mount in different holes on the cross member. As stated, the accessory mounts are different, you may need to re-clock the alternator. Hopefully...

    FNG! New year new Forum.

Welcome to the forum. Save the 205 for now. It was designed before the fuel crunch, so it's heavy but strong gear on gear unit. No front drive chain. Later if you don't need it, then sell. You will most likely have to look outside the rust belt where some of us live to get a good rust free...

    Front Fender Well Inspection Covers?

^^^ Like Jon said, original factory fenders have them spot welded for support. Many aftermarket fenders do not have them. Make your own if you want them to look original. Then you can have the original rust that they all had.

seat belt and top hardware? need to source new bolts

The early square trucks along with the Fords of same time period were all built with STD and SAE hardware. The gunment said the country is goin' metric. So the redesigned square truck areas, could have metric. The auto industry, was always called out first, for all new regulations.

    Replacing carb

The stock Quadrajet on the 1984 would have an electric choke. Are you setting the choke before you crank the engine? You need to apply the accelerator fully one time to set the choke. If it has been converted to a manual cable choke, then apply the accelerator, pull the choke cable, release the...

    Yet another starter issue

What @Rickf said. ^^^ I work on many medium duty diesels. The older the engines get, the more they like the block heater plugged in when it gets cold. I am sure you have some type battery/starter issue. Cold engine requires many more battery amps to start.

    Headlight issues

From the issue you describe, the most common cause is the headlight wire has rubbed through and has a short to ground. Yes, the upper headlights have two filaments inside. They are on for the low beams. Then all four lights are on for the high beams. The headlights do not have a fuse. There is...

    Can I use a c60 diesel tach on a 6.2 diesel?

Then I would hook a tach/dwell meter up to that tach pin and see what reading you get. The factory GM tach's have 3 wires. Positive, ground and a wire to the coil. I have not dealt with a CUCV alternator, but that pin on the alt. must have a pulse signal.
