Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

These trucks are notorious for the frame breaking at the steering box. So bad in fact there are repair plates and reinforcing kits to weld in and bolt in. I saw a lot of tie rod ends, ball joints and wheel bearings on your invoice but didn't see (or maybe missed) any mention of the drag link...

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

Edit: i didn't realize there was 11 pages and the OP found a similar project lol. Anyway, still might be useful info for others. Delete if not wanted here. Sorry! When i worked at WV dmv records dept we had a "message forwarding form" that would allow someone to send a message to the last...

    New truck/SXS

We had a couple shakedown rides this past weekend and the RMAX did great! We're in a severe drought here so group rides are out till we get some good rain, too dusty. We rode a local trail to what used to be "party point" where you could see over the whole valley but noticed the trail was really...

    New truck/SXS

So far so good but kinda early to tell. The 3.6 is peppy, and towed a 7'x12' trailer with the sxs with no problems on the interstate up some long hills. Wife hates the zr2, the floor board seems like it's 32 inches off the ground so you have to kinda throw your closest leg up in there and...

    New truck/SXS

I finally had to unload the 2014 GMC Sierra ****, it was having BCM issues and the day I traded it in I noticed a nail in one of my new tires. At that time it had 130k miles. So out with the old... ...and in with the new... It's not "new" new, but the newest thing I've ever owned. 2022...

What have you done to your square lately??

Had jumper cables rigged on my reese mount winch, swapped them out for welder lead quick connects and much heavier gauge wire. Also saw this cool video on how to fix the broken loop at the hook on a winch cable... Even though he said it's strong enough without saddle clamps I put 2 on it...

This actually belongs to my wife's cousin, really good guy, fighting cancer and just knows he needs to thin out his projects. If anyone's interested give him a shout! He's had it listed a while with no bites. https://www.facebook.com/share/RNwa7uDBLzYZU1cv/?mibextid=kL3p88 Mod/ admin if in the...

    Got Stickers?

Man I messed up and put a bunch of stickers on a mini fridge and it died a couple years later, only the old fridges last. This is on my DD, quite fond of it...

Ladder Rack Review from Harbor Freight (et al)

As an update to this, the other day my cousin and I stood on either side of the truck and pulled down on the front of the rack and not much force made the front and rear sections separate at the clamp. He suggested drilling and bolting them together at the clamp but I opted to seam weld them...

    Ring & Pinion How-To

I've uploaded them to imagur, I dont know much about them or if the same thing wont happen to them like it did imageshack. Maybe this coming weekend we can get @Old77 to unlock a few and I'll fix em. I had a bunch of pics for Dana 60 R&P setup too I uploaded, may do that one too if it's still...

    Ring & Pinion How-To

I think this is when Imageshack shut peoples' free accounts down, is there a decent free hosting place out there we dont have to worry about shutting down? I still have the original images for this thread.

Ladder Rack Review from Harbor Freight (et al)

No biggie, it's so bad it really is humorous. One other thing that was lacking in the kit. If you didn't want to permanently mount it to your bed, it has these jakey looking J-bolts that go through the little pieces of pipe welded to the bed brackets. I wouldn't trust these things to hold the...

Ladder Rack Review from Harbor Freight (et al)

At the back of the rack are these side hoops that will come in handy getting up on the tailgate. When the front and rear side rails are installed together in their slip joints and clamped, these hoops are a good 3" from their bolt tabs, and have considerable spring tension on them, making them a...

Ladder Rack Review from Harbor Freight (et al)

I'm going to do a review of this ladder rack as a heads-up to others considering it. I've seen it for sale on several other websites and Amazon, and they're all identical. First, if you can't weld you may not want this. I'll have to disassemble some sections of it later and weld/ paint. If you...

truck idles fine dies when put in gear

The 1406 I had, had a section of rubber fuel line between the filter and carb. When I removed the top I took a long piece of coat hanger, hammered a little flat hook on one end, and dug a lot of what looked like black sand out of the fuel passage that goes from the fuel inlet to the float bowls...

truck idles fine dies when put in gear

The Edelbrock idle circuit is sensitive to dirt. You may have to blow out the idle circuit with 40 psi compressed air and install a good paper element fuel filter. The "cleanable" screen filters let a lot of garbage through and eventually clogs it up. You can tune one that has a plugged idle...

    Question on leaf springs

Front lift springs usually have some wedge to correct caster angle to keep you steering geometry right. Rear springs don't need this, it keeps the pinion bearing oiled. Unless you have a lot of lift and need to correct the rear driveline angle, rear springs don't get wedged.

    ~1979 Non-AC HVAC Housing Feeler

Probably a long shot but thought I'd check. 2 of the 3 studs are broke off mine, and there's some heavy rust/loss of metal on the metal components inside. I've already started some rust inhibitor on the metal parts, planned to silicone what I can. I've already read the thread about 3M tape to...
