    Working over a motor

Update for the end of this weekend. Installed a two piece dip stick (first time actually using a lower tube), the fuel pump, balancer, timing tab, verified zero TDC for the balancer and pointer is accurate, put on head gaskets, sat on the heads and lifters. Coming together pretty well. Next...

    700r4 rebuild time, advice?

I've heard good things and bad things about monster but here is their kit https://www.monstertransmission.com/Deluxe-Rebuild-Kit-700R4-Transmission-1987-1993_p_4873.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw2efrBRD3ARIsAEnt0ejNZCfWyeuJZN96H8otG1XPjeifFuCyyq2SBRiZKEtZruTAnOKoQuoaAnZIEALw_wcB#.XXpwjyhKiUk Here is...

    700r4 rebuild time, advice?

@Obwonkonobe Damn lucky I'd say! better go by a lotto ticket. Glad you found it in time. When mine was done local to me, it cost $3400.00 for a full build up warrantied and all. Defiantly a steep price considering I bought the truck for $5000. After using this unit I've decided that when it goes...

    Working over a motor

This was my other thought as well. I'll keep it as is without for now, but if I have strange fluctuating oil pressure I'll add one. As for ignition I have a ACCEL HEI that will be going in and some taylor cut to fit wires. Also ended up ordering Lokar's throttle, and 700r4 TV kit. Plus some...

    Working over a motor

Thanks for the quick reply!! I feel this is right on the money. And i am not in a position to NEED one, as this engine wont be a super power house or any kind of a high rev. Therefore I believe the stock baffled pan should be adequate.

    Working over a motor

Getting this thing together finally. I ran into a question though, should I put in a windage tray? I've never ran one before and really dont know if it'd be beneficial or just more of a headache. Fyi if I need one I'm looking at the Canton TR-20-910 A screened type for $54 and their stud kit...

Own and am Restoring 1977 Chevy K10 Pickup

A clean one. But really though, a plain paper filter is a great option. Some people do prefer the K&N. I've used both and find out I prefer a basic paper type. If going offroad in dusty conditions look into putting a prefilter over it. Nice looking truck btw

Anybody sitting on a big 12 incher?

I currently have a single kicker 12" behind my seat. Sounds great looks good. And fits well in a custom Sealed box. But i am 5'9" and sit with about 2-3 clicks from the farthest back. My 86 c20, I had two 10" dvc kickers in a basic sealed truck box and it was even better plus had full range of...

    Working over a motor

Guess I should post an update to this thread. Got the motor back from the machine shop last Friday. Had them do the basic work along with replacing one out of round connecting rod, one bent exhaust valve, and springs in the heads. After talking to him a little he recommended a speed pro...

    Electric Power Steering Pump Conversion.

My Power steering pump started making some noise so I am once again looking to replace it. Which got me thinking, that led me to find this link. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c4-tech-performance/3936571-converted-my-car-to-use-an-electric-power-steering-pump.html Now I'll most likely...

Meaning of "Bonus Cab" in 1985

I'm with you. Gotta be some junk just stuck on there. I've only ever seen the 3+3 emblem a little farther up behind that rear side window.

    Time for a new radiator

Generally the brass OEM units can be repaired. The plastic cap ones just get replaced. I believe they all cool about the same as far as effectiveness, unless one is larger or a higher grade unit. Back in ye ole days a radiator shop was a normal thing and would repair a brass unit cheap. Today...

14 Bolt Full Float / Semi Float Identification

It really comes down to what you use the truck for. If a 2wd DD then a open diff would be fine. If a hot rod probably a posi loc of some kind. But if a 4wd that sees offroad put a locker in it, a Yukon or something. If it were me I'd pay the big money and get an ARB air locker and on board air...

14 Bolt Full Float / Semi Float Identification

Holy crap, performance issues he says. I think there's less hammered rear ends at a gay bar... I've seen them break but never have I seen them blow apart like that.

    Help with Rear Disc Swap

Better man then I. I may or may not have pulled a trans pan and used it as a diff drain pan in a junkyard before. Good luck on your endeavour

Locker and 13 bolt shave install.

In heavy rock crawling I think getting more clearance without raising your center of gravity is a good thing. I also feel our biggest disadvantage to jeeps is the longer wheel base. Speaking to the diff cover, I went with a factory style cover but with guards front and rear. Granted I didn't...

Desperately Need Help! Extreme coolant leak!

No problem! I only think of them because I've ran into them haha, :happy160: good luck on tracking down all the bugs and kinks of an older truck. It can be alot of fun but take alot of time and patience. Hope you stick around. Everyone here has tons of knowledge!

Desperately Need Help! Extreme coolant leak!

Possible the dip stick end broke off, tube isnt seated into the block fully, changed out with some aftermarket piece that isn't the right length, or just plain low on oil, OP says checking with motor running, you only check a trans with it running. Engine oil only gets checked when warm and off...
