    New here from Texas

Welcome from So Cal, once the center of car culture, alas no more. Yeah, other sites also have sepia-tinged photos, conservative political opinions, and invaluable advice on keeping my 49-year-old truck on the road, but here you can cuss. (If needed, within reason, of course, but still, I cuss...

Drilling Holes in a Plastic Gauge Cluster Crystal?

I don't understand what "crystal" means here. Do you mean the clear plastic in front of all the gages? That is generally called the "lens", IIRC. I cut a lot of acrylic at work, so here is my main advice: get some other thin acrylic fom like HDepot, cut it into two pieces and sandwich the...

    New guy Ky

With the subject line, "New Guy KY" I was expecting a joke about the French Foreign Legion. instead we have pics of a very sweet pewter-toned GMC just being FLAUNTED on a lift that I covet so much. Are you actually Sturgill Simpson? BR ps -- the punch line is, "NO NO NO!!! The camels take...

    Harbor Freight Tool/Product Review

I agree with you on th brake bleeder pump -- the fittings for the bleeder valves won't stay on when opening/closing the valves. I now have far more air in my brake lines than before. In fact it's foam now. BR

    Aux Battery Tray

Others have found an odd dearth of parts sepcifically for 73-81 trucks. Both LMC and Classic industries seem to have big caps in their catalogs. Not sure why. Regarding batteries, my tray is mounted sideways with mystery brackets and I can't figure out where it came from. I keep meaning to...

Rear brake hose replacement, 1973 C10

Thanks for the advice, @fast68chevy The rain has stopped and my replacement hose is coming in tomorrow, so I will take the lines apart after work and hope the "replacement" hose actually has the proper fittings to mate with the existing lines. BRetty

Rear brake hose replacement, 1973 C10

All, I am replacing a ruptured hose on my '73 C10, and I have a few questions about the process. My square: '73 C10, 350 smb, longbed, lowered 4.5/6, dashboard and steering column (and other parts?) from '81 Suburban, many things not done, or done poorly, or never finished, by PO. ______ THE...

    New Guy From La.

All I know about differentials is that dropping one on my tailgate will dent it BADLY. But, Welcome! Glad to see more Chevy folks, I feel outcast amongst all the Fords and Toyotas at my work... ! BRetty

    Powersteering pump trouble

I guess I've been hanging out here at GMSB a while now. Was scrolling through this thread and saw pictures of what looked like random piles of rusty-but-useable Chevy parts, and just naturally thought, "Oh, looks like an AuroraGirl post!" Scrolled back and --> Lo! and Behold! Never change...

    Under dash light

@My78, Glad you got your lights working again...now does anybody know where that particular light/socket is supposed to mount? Mine was dangling when I got my '73 (as was a lot of the underdash wiring) and I still can't figure out wherethe thing is supposed to go. Thanks is anvance, BRetty

DIY Junkyard Wiper Motor and Intermittent Module Retrofit/Upgrade

Rusty, What is your plan to make the round hole that you have drilled, where it attaches to the motor shaft, into a "slot" with flat sides and a rounded end? Here's a crude drawing of what I mean -- top is with a round hole, bottom is how it needs to be shaped to seat on the shoulder of the...

Headers? worth the effort & cost?

So, for the "Chevelle" headers, am I looking for "full-length" headers that tuck close to the engine b/c they were for a car, or do I want mid/shorty/hugger? My '73 C10 is dropped 4.5/6, and has a column-shift automatic transmission. I would simplu measure in my engine compartment, but nobody...

Headers? worth the effort & cost?

All, Love this discussion, multiple view points and experience are what people need to sort out what is right for them. [Same with politics, multiple voices and perspective helpful, that's real "diversity" not the modern racism dressed up as virtue.] Following this convo b/c my PO put 305...

    Lower Steering Column Loose

KingKlung -- Sorry I missed this when you posted it -- this is exactly the info I was lookingfor! Yes, it seems pulling out the column is the only real way to do this. I'm gonna act on this As soon as I can get a garage space for a few days so I don't have to do this in the bed of my truck...

    hose, wire suppots and fastening

McMaster-Carr is my resource for things like industrial Adel clamps and machine parts like standoffs. If there is a sign or plexiglass shop near you, standoffs are used in the sign and display industry to mount like placards on a wall etc. In a pinch they might have some. mcmaster.com

    1985 Monte Carlo SS

About 20 years ago, hospitals started printing bar-codes on every single thing ever used in surgery, due to the alarming numbner of sponges and sutures and debris that got accidentally sewn up inside surgical patients. Everything had to be scanned-in and then scanned-out at the end, and if...

    1985 Monte Carlo SS

Everybody wants to be Crispy! Yesterday (Saturday night) on Hollywood Blvd I saw a very short "car rally" of six tricked-out rides, Impalas and Monte Carlos, come cruising and hopping down the Blvd. The second-to-last was jacked up in the back to an absurd degree, showing off shit-loads of...

    1979 Trans Am - 25 years in a garage

Crispy, you are my hero. I have been checking out your build threads, and you seem to be bringing back every single vehicle I "Came of Age" in. My HS girlfriend traded in her bright-yellow AMC Pacer (!) for a silver IROC-Z28 when she graduated. (She was 18, I was 15, I surely had never heard...

    1985 Monte Carlo SS

Actually, Crispy, maybe you can help me out..... WTF are "hood pins" and what is the point of them? I mean, I have seen them before but I just don't get it. Is it some kind of crude anti-theft device so a-holes won't steal your battery and sweet valve covers? ?

    1985 Monte Carlo SS

Crispy, that is a sick-looking gangsta-sinister ride you already have there. Can't wait to see the progress. I inherited my grandfather's sky-blue '82 Monte and drove it my last year of HS. I was a dumb 16-17-yo punk who knew nothing at all about cars, but man did I love that thing. You know...

    Lower Steering Column Loose

PS -- This is a tilt column with automatic transmission. My truck is a '73 but the dashboard is from an '81 Suburban, I think the column and transmission (TH350C) are from that vehicle as well, so an '81 tilt column w/automatic. Thx, BR
