    big block starter replacement

I installed a starter on my 454 (early 70s LS5) with a Delco Delphi one for a 99 Suburban from Oreilly. Also used the slightly shorter mounting bolts. Starter P/N R613326B. Dorman P/N for bolts was 678-107. Everything bolted right up and works beautifully. Starter is a small permanent magnet...

What have you done to your square lately??

So it’s November 11 in central VA and I’m going once again driving around in the topless blazer wearing nothing but jeans and a t-shirt. The new ColdCase radiator and fan unit works great. I gave the old radiator (a Summit aluminum unit installed by PO in June 24) a good look and saw why it...

What have you done to your square lately??

Finished installing the new radiator and fans and tested everything to make sure I had no leaks and the fans cycled on and off at the right temps. All was good so went for a beautiful fall drive. Seems nuts to be driving around in a topless Blazer on Nov 7 wearing a jeans and t-shirt! (Temps...

What have you done to your square lately??

Installing a Cold Case radiator with twin 14” fans in the Blazer. Did the same upgrade on my 57 Chevy with a 383 Stroker years back and it worked wonderfully. One day I was out cruising in the 57 and got stuck in a traffic backup due to an accident. It was upper 90s but engine temps never...

What have you done to your square lately??

Had a perfect fall drive in the Blazer today, after which I pulled it back into the shop and set the fan in front of it with the shop doors cracked open. Wife saw this and asked why I was cooling off Billy (her name for the Blazer) like he was a hot horse! Told her that I was trying to blow...

What have you done to your square lately??

Re-dyed the Blazers spare tire cover pretty close to the original Sand color. Wife is making a BLAZER decal for it that should look nice. Looking for an original bracket to mount spare vertically behind rear bench seat.

What have you done to your square lately??

Thanks Andy. I went down the “Factory Correct” rabbit hole a ways back with my 69 Boss 302. Expensive trip! My goal with the Blazer is do it my way but still look factory, at least to the majority of folks. Must be close as many folks look at it at shows and comment “I didn’t know they made a...

What have you done to your square lately??

A bit more detailing under the hood and installed new plug wires on the Blazer. Replaced the plugs a week or so ago when I had the inner fenders out.

    Air Cleaner Stud

Threaded rod works, but I picked this up at O'Reilly's because I also wanted that over-sized stamped wing nut.

    2 post shop lift

@Craig Nedrow what booklet are you referring to for lift points? My factory service manuals show the lift points for my vehicles but just have to do what seems right for others.

When your truck is on the lift and hurricane remnants knock out the power you're at the mercy of the power company as to when you lower it back down.

What have you done to your square lately??

Removed the inner fenders for cleanup and detailing. Also provides access to rust-prone areas. Didn’t find rust but applied some POR15 in spots. Also replaced spark plugs as they were super easy to get to with inner fenders off. Not real happy with the inner fender appearance even after sand...

    2 post shop lift

I believe that’s the one I bought in 2016. Use it all the time (Blazer is up on it now) and have never had any problems.

    Resistor question

Yes, vintage variable trailer brake resistor. Don’t need it but too cool to not restore and reinstall. Proudly made in Michigan USA.

    Resistor question

@bucket based on your lead I did a search for Vintage GMC electric brake resistor. BINGO! Mine is from a different manufacturer and not marked so obviously. Not needed but looks cool, like something from Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory. Might detail it and keep.

    2 post shop lift

You’re definitely right about making your life easier. I installed my 2-post lift in 2016 and it’s the best tool I ever bought. Mine is sized for lifting our diesel dually trucks, a Ram 3500 and Ford F-350. It’s also extra high as I’m 6’4”. One thing to make you aware of is it can be a tight...

    Resistor question

Getting ready to remove and paint the LH side inner fender on my 1975 Blazer and can’t determine what this large resistor is for. Truck came from factory with air, auto and 350 engine. Figure someone here knows for sure!

Any cb’s that would fit in the radio slot?

Can’t see it in the pic but the handset has a “push to talk” button on it that regular phones didn’t have.

Any cb’s that would fit in the radio slot?

CB radios bring back a lot of memories. My dad had this cool rig in his Dodge truck. We crossed the country more than once between VA and Cal. in that truck, yackin with the truckers on the CB. The handset made it seem like you had a phone in your truck, but who ever heard of such nonsense as a...

Removed, disassembled and refinished the center console. Never paid much attention to it and was surprised to learn that the lid, cup holder and about half the body is cast metal and has some heft to it. The very bottom piece that bolts to the floor brackets is fiberglass.

What have you done to your square lately??

Went ahead and dyed the door pockets; figured they wouldn’t be used much at all so color may hold up. Also installed my new steering wheel. Never liked the rubber and aluminum one much. Love the new one! Before: After:

What have you done to your square lately??

Removed both door panels, lubed the window regulators and dyed the panels and arm rests. Need to do something about the the map pockets. I suspect dyeing won't work on something so flexible so may get wife to make new ones in the correct ( or more correct ) color. Saw a great How To thread here...

What have you done to your square lately??

It's important to not overtighten the pan bolts too, regardless of the gasket. Steel pans will warp, aluminum pans can crack. I use a torque wrench to make sure they're all tightened evenly to the specified torque.
