Pushrod length madness
I know for my Gen IV I had to rob my 427 that had aftermarket guide plates so I could fit the larger diameter pushrods on the 454. Game plan is to buy another set or modify my existing guide plates when and if I ever get around to putting the 427 back together.- SlickGTP

Opinions please

What have you done to your square lately??
been working on getting the loose rust off the frame so that I can go in and coat as much of it as I can in por15... Also bought some new shocks for after I get the frame coated. :) -

Windshield installation?
I haven't done it yet, but I've seen and heard the cord method... I figured I should be able to get it alright with the help of a friend. I'm more worried about getting the lock strip in than the seal popped in the truck. Figured I'd go at it slow and easy... Hopefully it's cooperative... :) -

$100 for the glass doesn't sound bad... I'm planning on doing the installation myself, so that'll nix the cost on installation. -

Finally got the truck back on the road and took it for a nice drive. Smooth as butter and the speedometer is finally accurate. Tell ya what... I was nervous replacing the u-joints, but I think I did good. :cheers: Really ought to update my build thread. I get distracted and forget. -

Recalibrating speedometer by changing the drive gear on a Th-400
Yeah, for my tire height/gearing ratio combo I needed a 2:1 ratio between driven/drive gears... With a 15 tooth drive gear, I found they didn't make a 30 tooth driven gear, so I had to change the drive gear. Lucked had it that I had a 42 tooth driven gear and I found a 21 tooth drive gear on...- SlickGTP

Recalibrating speedometer by changing the drive gear on a Th-400
The one I pulled off is a heavy duty sucker... Would probably last longer than I will, but then again it was probably put on by the factory in '73 when they knew how to build things to last. Nothing like the one I bought off of ebay only to have it fall apart in under 5 miles.- SlickGTP

Recalibrating speedometer by changing the drive gear on a Th-400
I did this with my TH-400, but most automatic transmissions will be similar. I also went the long way around and replaced the drive gear. Some will be able to just replace the driven gear which is much simpler as it is one bolt for the retainer on the Speedometer Pinion. 1) Jack up the back...- SlickGTP

Speedo gear?
I would pull the speedo gear and count both the drive and driven gears so that you know what you have to start with. Then TCI has a nifty little calculator. http://www.tciauto.com/tc/speedometer-gear-calculator/ With that you can see if you need one gear, the other, or both... You can...- SlickGTP

What have you done to your square lately??
Replaced all the seals, gaskets, and bushings for the tail housing on my transmission when I installed my new speedometer drive gear and then replaced all the u-joints in the driveshaft. Just have to clean off a few things and then reinstall the driveshaft so I can get the truck back out on the... -

@MrMarty: Don't be too hard on yourself, it's because there are people like us that there's hope for the world in my humble opinion... If we were all greedy sob's then things would be going downhill faster than shit on an oiled slide... I figure we at least help slow it down a bit. :happy175...
