95 Chevy Caprice transmission quirks... suggestions?

Oh, and one thing to add to that. It shifts hard from 1st to second. Slams into gear, like someone ran into the back of you. On payment sometins itll bark the tires from 1st to 2nd. If your really on it, slams from 2nd to 3rd too

95 Chevy Caprice transmission quirks... suggestions?

I have (among many other things), a 1995 Caprice 9c1 cleverly disguised as a Impala SS.. haha. Anyway, its my daily driver, drive it everyday to work. Has a 262 4.3 TPI V8 and a 4L60E, both original. 150k miles. It runs great but it shifts really funky. Theres no slipping or anything, but it...

Well id say, since you need heads, and if your good with spending the money, by all means, get the nice AFR heads. Do a slightly heavier cam, headers and a nice intake. Thatd make it pretty darn nice. My suggestion would be, whatever intake you get, get a standard 55-86 bolt pattern square...

Heres a thought too... have your heads professionally rebuilt and modded. You can have them decked, ported larger, and bigger valves put in. But at the very least you get like new heads, for chepaer than new prices. You can go in there yourself and diegrind the intake ports larger by hand ive...

Exactly. Doable, yes, reliable, most likely, but power, eh, and worth your money, no.

Okay, for one, i wouldn't spend money on nice higher flowing new heads, and keep the stock TBI, seems like a waist. If it were my build, with a decent stock 350 block and lower end, id personally just get set of halfway decent stock cast iron junkyard heads, edlebrock performer intake, and a...

    Replace idiot lights with gauges.

@imjohnny I have about 7 or 8 hole gauge sets, cluster, housing, face plate, etc, as well as many loose gauges. Early 70s, late 70s, and 80s styles. If any of that would help you in your quest to upgrade, let me know.

I like that idea. Id say vortec heads, and an edlebrock performer for TBI. Maybe even a slightly heavier cam and headers. Thatd beaf it up well.. There are hop up kits for TBI too. Higher flowing injectors, new regulator, new pump, and thatll kick but

Distributor thoughts needed on an issue

Does the 4 degree drop in reliation to slightly higher RPM, or movement of the throttle? Becase if your opening the throttle, could be a momentary drop in vacuum, a slight drop in rpm, and therefore time. Maybe a little stumble or an unperceivable drop in rpm, enought to drop time a little. If...

Help identifying this transmission, and an OD 4 speed to replace it.

Dont know if that helps any. But theres a bunch of comparison pictures online if you look it up

That looks pretty normal. Every distributor I've ever messed with about that much play.

You thought about TPI swapping it? Stock GM parts and equipment, keep your same bottom end, but tuned port injection top end. Its an option. Theres someone on here that have a TPI 350 in their truck. And I'm not just trying to sell my stuff here, but FYI have a complete TPI setup off my 85...

No worries man, glad i could help. Glad you like them. Lemme know how they look when they're on. If you need me to measure the mounting location for them, the 73 i took them off is still at the junkyard,i could measure the hole location.

No problem. They fit alot better in pieces, haha. But they're all wrapped up in bubble wrap and safe. Definatly better quality. Theyre already 50 years old, and they still look that good, they gotta be better than the new junk..
