Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Did you do the work yourself or have a shop install? If a shop, do you remember the labor cost?

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks Wayne. Yes, that was what I was wondering. A “new to me” rear would be potentially worse than what I currently have. Also, I just completely rebuilt the brake system and got new tires. Would be nice to use those. It’s a 3.73. Got any recommendations for a new diff? Looks like it is time...

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks. That helps. What would you do now that we know that? Look for a complete new rear end? If so, avoid another 10 bolt?

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks @Turbo4whl Will get a shot of the other side later, hopefully today when I Jack it up and turn a wheel. Yesterday was pure chaos and didn’t have time to button it up and refill yet. Must’ve been meant to be apparently. Having our first lambs of the season hit the ground yesterday made...

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks to @nvrenuf for the suggestion, I am also toying with the idea of pulling a 6 lug semi floater 14 bolts in the 88+ body style trucks from the junkyard here in town. I am going to put the cover back on the diff for now, fill it up with gear oil and only drive it short distances while I...

That’s exactly what I said as soon as I took the cover off. EDIT: I actually said a metal sea anemone.

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks @Blue Ox and @Buck69 , I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. I have had three different friends give me three different pieces of advice so far. I would like this rear end to last a while Longer in the future and whatever work I do will hopefully help that possibility. I don’t plan to...

    Brake pedal loses pressure

I would start looking at the vacuum line to the brake booster. Is the hose in good shape?

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

If it was your truck what would you do? Look for another 10 bolt axle and check under the cover to ensure gears look decent? Search for something more durable? If so, what? Spend lots more for replacement parts installed? Let me know why you would choose that choice too.

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Just finally getting around to changing the gear oil after purchasing it a year and a half ago and addressing other stuff that needed attention. PO abused the rig. In hindsight, should’ve looked at the differentials earlier after seeing that absolutely everything on the brake system needed to be...

What have you done to your square lately??

it really is money well spent. Adds good looks, another level of safety, and great feel when sitting behind the wheel.

What have you done to your square lately??

Today what was done to the square wasn’t much, but with everything else taking priority for over a year, Im glad that I finally replaced the brake pedal pad.

'85 C10 tire fit/stuff question (not the normal questions you're used to seeing here)

Love seeing your low COG builds from over the years. I know here in the southwest, most 4x4s have lift to prevent tire rub, but yes, most of the time it is overkill. What is the greatest benefit of your low COG builds? Off camber dirt roads without roll definitely come to mind, but I am sure...

Connect phone to factory AM radio

this is what I do currently since the PO pulled all audio components out. It was really nice of him to cut 6x9 holes in the door panels though! The nice big holes can hold my thermos in there.

Connect phone to factory AM radio

I've been thinking about using am transmitters, but there aren't many options it seems. This one is currently at the top of my list: https://www.retroradioshop.com/collections/am-transmitters/products/am-transmitter-and-bluetooth-adapter-for-retro-vintage-or-antique-radios

What have you done to your square lately??

have you replaced the hoses recently? Mine had collapsed inside making a one way valve that caused the stuck caliper. They looked fine from the outside.
