Advice on GM 14 Bolt Corporate Full Float w/3.73 gears that are junk

I talked to a few other mechanics about this issue I shared with you guys, and I have the same opinion at this point that they do......clean up axle tubes & inside of axle, replace the pitted bearings, bad seals, clean up the grooves on the spider shaft, and just put the thing back together...

Advice on GM 14 Bolt Corporate Full Float w/3.73 gears that are junk

@bucket I don't have any pics here on my PC at work, however in my thread there is a couple pics, not really good ones though. You can see the pitting on the ring gear somewhat, and the shiny on the pinion...

Advice on GM 14 Bolt Corporate Full Float w/3.73 gears that are junk

Hi all, so now I am at the point that all my gears are shot in the rear-end of my truck. The dilemma is I am trying to save money here, and this damned truck project is starting to really get a bit expensive. So now comes the part I need all new gears in the rear-end (it started with a leaking...

    About me.

Ah, I see! However...."IF" those mounts are specific to the truck chassis (like what I need) they are worth a little money, and I could certainly use them. For a 58 Olds project (freaking sweet cars by the way, love that style!) you can use about any mount you want. These mounts I talk about...

    About me.

Welcome @JBswth !! Glad to hear that you saved the truck and will be putting it back on the road. Cool it had a 455 Olds!!!! If you took the engine to frame mounts out of that, send them my way, I have been looking for some! I stuffed a 455 Olds in my 76 GMC Crew dually, love those Olds engines!

    Weird knock under load

Yes, it could very well be some carbon too that let loose, but I would think you would hear that all the time.....??

    Weird knock under load

What kind of engine? What kind of truck? (86 S10 with 4.3 V6?) A tick is "usually" just lifter/pushrod noise, you may have a weak lifter possibly. Under load and knocking could be a sign of a loosed rod/worn rod bearing. If you are driving it and have it under load it knocks....what does it...

Can someone school me on carpet

@SirRobyn0 I had to trim a little to the left & right sides as they do make them a bit bigger so you have some wiggle room to do what is needed. They suggested it sit for a day to help settle so I did that, because they send it to you rolled up....well, I think it was rolled up. Heck, now I...

Can someone school me on carpet

I too had never done carpeting in an interior until I did my crew cab truck. For this I put in my own insulation (with 3M spray adhesive), and then I layed the carpet down over that with NO spray (although a couple spots I may spray now such as right near where the door closes & meets that...

LMC truck has the wrong window regulator rollers....

I am about ready to say "eff-it" and reverse engineer them and have a few machine shops bid the job and see how much they come back at.

LMC truck has the wrong window regulator rollers....

Any luck getting these rollers? If so, what do they like?

LMC truck has the wrong window regulator rollers....

No, same junk as LMC has.

LMC truck has the wrong window regulator rollers....

I believe it is 4 fasteners that come out near the crank handle area, that will release the entire regulator. Also, please keep me posted if those are correct. I am about ready to lose my crap on mine......and getting the same damned answer & pictures from other places of the wrong parts. So I...

99 GMC Sierra Classic (old body style)---What distributor do you suggest?

So how did you stretch the tang? Are you talking about the cam position sensor that is held into the distributor by 2 little screws? Even with that unplugged (or bad sensor) the engine will still run, but will throw a code and check engine light. Had this happen on my 7.4 Vortec in another...

99 GMC Sierra Classic (old body style)---What distributor do you suggest?

Thanks @AuroraGirl I have seen that bulletin. I personally do not see how clean screens in a distributor can cause any of those issues as mine have never been clogged up each time I check them. I have also used the good caps with the brass in them and end up with the same problem.

99 GMC Sierra Classic (old body style)---What distributor do you suggest?

So an update on this guys. Since the last time I drove it when it was having issues I have not touched it. I wanted to work on it today so I was going to move it. It fired up and ran just fine.....hmmmm.... So today I took off the cap to check it out, no arcing, not dirty, no cracks, and...

99 GMC Sierra Classic (old body style)---What distributor do you suggest?

Speaking of venting, the distributor does have that little screen in the bottom of it, and every time I look at that the screen is clean and no buildup on it. Wonder if moisture is coming up through that??
