Rough and shaking 350 after changing spark plugs

This is what came to mind for me too. I rebuilt the exact UHJ system in your picture. If recall, The TVS that goes to EFE allows vacuum when cold and then closes when hot. Assuming the same or similar system, this should not be the OP’s problem. The TVS that supplies the EGR allows vacuum...

Rough and shaking 350 after changing spark plugs

Make sure you didn't knock a vacuum fitting loose somewhere. If it's a stock '86, you also might have cracked one of the plastic lines which are pretty brittle at this age. Your symptoms sound like a vacuum leak or plug wire issue.

    Timing is way advanced

Hard to really tell from the definition of “way advanced” because most of the old school timing tabs only went to, what? 14 btdc? A few things that might be in play: - big cams like a lot of timing, so 18+ btdc initial (base) timing isn’t out of the ordinary. - some people lock out their...

Removing Pilot Bearing//Is it as bad as I hear?

The bread method works and is cleaner than grease. If you have much clearance around your bolt grease is gonna spew. Good gooey white bread.

    I've come here to complain!

To be fair, most of my added time is due to add on “wouldn’t that be nice” work. So I set out to replace the plugs and wires and end up doing a partial block cleanup “while I’m in there.”

    Truck stalling. Tv cable?

Tv shouldn’t really interfere with the throttle at idle at all, so first thing I would check is whether the tv is so tight it’s closing the throttle plates from their resting position. When you say “high idle” do you actually mean with the high idle cam engaged? If you start it on high idle...

    I've come here to complain!

I thought doing everything twice was part of being a hobbyist with an antique truck. I don’t usually spent twice the money I expect to, but I almost always spend twice the time.

    EGR bleed solenoid

Tried to find a pic of mine on my phone and this is best I can do. The solenoid has a pigtail on back and two vacuum inlets. One side goes to the back of the carb (just a dump to atmosphere on the q jet) and the other is fed by ported vacuum from a tvs in a stock config. My truck’s vac...

    EGR bleed solenoid

Maybe there are different kinds, but the egr bleed solenoid on my 85 305 w 700r4 activates when tcc is locked and bleeds vacuum off the EGR. It doesn’t add vacuum it releases it. This was done (to my knowledge) to allow for a slightly richer mix when the converter is locked to avoid pinging...

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

I agree with this. I tried to bring ESC back to my truck and when I got a functioning module, I didn't like the way the truck ran (real mushy, slow), and I quit right there. I don't have Robyn's pinging issues however.

1985 Chevrolet C10 Cruise Control Help

I put a vacuum tee on the same tube as the cruise servo and ran my a/c vac from there. It’s behind the check valve and I never have a problem with a/c or cruise vac function. I had to go look. It doesn’t show in the photo I used because that was before I finished my install.

1985 Chevrolet C10 Cruise Control Help

The servo has two vacuum lines to it, one that goes to the vacuum tank you mention and one that goes through the firewall to the brake pedal cruise cancel switch. There should be a three way check valve with one inlet on one side of the check valve coming from manifold vacuum, one down leg on...

    Alternator not charging at idle

If you got to 18/19 inches of vac at idle I suspect you are doing ok. Your comment on setting idle for zero vac in the ported line sounds wrong but may just be a method I haven’t used. You want to set idle to the right spec for your truck. Usually something like 550 - 600 rpm warm, in Drive...

    Alternator not charging at idle

Moving down to 12 likely helps your hot start issue. 15 is quite a bit of timing (though not crazy) depending on the motor. Looks like you have a 350, so you should be alright. Lots of 80s motors ran with single digit advance, so you might play around with a little less base timing. Couple...

    Alternator not charging at idle

Easiest way is with a cylinder stop. You install the stop and then turn the motor (manually) until you bump the stop..then ease the stop out until you stop stopping the piston. That's at TDC. Of course you do this on the compression stroke and you can see that by watching that the rocker arms...

    Alternator not charging at idle

I've read your posts. You should consider finding TDC on Cylinder 1 and marking your timing or applying a timing tape appropriately. It's hard to know what's going on with the engine if you don't know where your timing is set.

    Alternator not charging at idle

Slow crank when warm might be: - timing too advanced - heat soak on the starter (happens w headers-do you have them and are they heating up the starter?) - marginal ground or positive connections / bad wires. As wires warm up they gain resistance. - bad starter…

    Alternator not charging at idle

If it started charging after revving and kept charging from there, I would think that maybe your exciter wire has too much resistance or another problem and isn't throwing enough voltage to the alternator until you rev it. I think you can jump it to any 12V switched source to see if that helps...

    VARMITS

Probably worth verifying but I was told that dryer sheets (like bounce) keep mice away, and found that leaving a bunch of dryer sheets in the interior was a better experience than moth balls.

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

I went through trying to revive esc in my rusty rebuild and actually found that the truck ran better without it (a lot better). That said, if you are in need I do have a working esc module that I picked up and subsequently have just lying around and would let it go for a reasonable recoup of...

Hood adjuster pins on the cowl???

Probably a little bit of all that. I removed them and at least can open the hood without trouble. The hood is bent on the side that was catching so it’s likely I could massage it some and reinstall them. It Also looks like the hood is installed a little low. I will post up some pictures. This...

Hood adjuster pins on the cowl???

I can’t find any other reference. When I go to open the (cowl) hood on this particular truck, the rear of the hood ducks down and snags the pin. Worried I’m going to deform the hood. Any tips anybody? I’m thinking about removing the pins or at least shortening them.

Hood adjuster pins on the cowl???

Can somebody name this part for me and tell me what it’s supposed to do? Mine are catching on the back side of a cowl hood and causing some damage when opening the hood. (This is not my truck, I scavenged the photo from the inter webs).

That’s nothing. The latest c10 I bought had a pair of vice grips holding the bumper to the frame horn.
