1987 V10 with carb and dual tanks will not stay running
The '87 TBI tank switches have to stay switched to the tank you're running off of. It cannot be the rocker-type that stays centered when not being touched. I learned this on my '87 V20 when I sorted all the BS wiring the clown had done to my truck before I got ahold of it. I also got my auxilary...- mtbadbob

Stock 400 small bock with bigger cam
FWIW, I had a '76 Monte w/sb 400, and it ran best at 12 degrees btdc, and F/A screws out almost 5 turns on a Quadrajet. This was in Montana, higher elevation. You'll NEVER satisfy everyone. I would buy a 4wd logo shirt, but I dislike when someone slams a truck, just not my cup of tea. They're really bad when you live in MT and need a 4wd truck. It's as bad as the lifted 2wd trucks in CA & Arizona. That's my 2 cents! -

Get some 2" Add-A-Leaf springs upfront, then install some 2" +/- spacer blocks on the rear & call it good!- mtbadbob

A 35" is a GIANT tire when these rigs came with mostly 15" wheels. I just said i wouldn't hack my sheetmetal to "try & look cool" and have stupid-looking off-set wheels hanging out there. I also don't like 6"+ lifts neither, just my preference, just something a little more aggressive than stock...- mtbadbob

TOTALLY your decision to hack on your sheetmetal just to have a GIANT tire. Also, those positive offset wheels will eat 1/2 ton steering/suspension components like candy, not to mention you will be forever cleaning crap off that is slung all over the side of your vehicle. 72 Monte Carlo project
Great project! I'm a HUGE Monte fan. I've owned 3 total, including an '86 SS. My first CAR was a '76 that was one of my fav's of all that I owned. I've never owned a 1st gen , but would love a 1st gen SS with either the LS5 or 402!- mtbadbob

Welcome from Montana. I, too, am a Q-Jet man. I've rebuilt several & have had great luck with them. Make sure you check the play on the throttle shaft, because if it's wore out, it'll suck in air and to my knowledge, you'll have to ****-can it. The carb numbers on the side tell the story...- mtbadbob

2.5" Skyjacker final thoughts
I did a pair of Rough Country 2" Add A Leafs up front, 1" spacer blocks and new u- bolts in rear. About perfect 2" lift with slight rake. The ride is pretty good, but it is a 3/4" ton. Also, shorty trucks will be a bit more "bucky-feeling" in ride because of their short wheel base- mtbadbob

1987 Fresh Air Intake
I believe the TBI snorkel tubes are a bit longer because the air cleaner housing locks down onto the TB in a certain position, where the carburated versions were canted more toward the front. On my '87, I tried a snorkel from a different year, and it was a little too short to connect to the core...- mtbadbob
