    Nylon cam gear years

Please post an update as to how well the clutch functions along with a part number. I've replaced several before and usually they don't disengage.

    Broken exhaust flange bolts

I've welded several that were flush to the surface. It'll be difficult to do upside down though. With a good cobalt bit you should be able to drill it in about 15 minutes.

    Nylon cam gear years

It was my understanding that the gear was cast with the teeth and set in a mold for the nylon. This eliminated any machine work. I'm not saying this is gospel. Coincidentally I've also heard people talk about noise reduction with nylon gears. I've swapped dozens, seems like you as well, and...

    Nylon cam gear years

I believe the primary reason for the nylon teeth was a production issue. Was easier and cheaper to make the nylon teeth vs. machining the metal gear. People love to hate on them, but they did usually last just as long as the rest of the car.

Am I Crazy? Lincoln Drive Train Swap

A 78 460 is a smogged turd that is probably about 200 hp. There are better candidates out there.

Not enough caster or super stiff balljoints

Have a great Snap On dealer finally

They can use their discretion with warranty stuff. I once saw a coworker use a deep snap on 1 1/2" socket as a press fixture for a wheel bearing. He wound up pounding on it with a hammer and peened both ends over. So much so the square hole was fubar. He handed it to the snap on guy and he gave...

    Bought a new impact wrench

I have a ton of Milwaukee tools at work. I would warn against letting the impacts hammer. They aren't like pneumatic impacts. I've burned 3-4 up trying to get stubborn bolts out. I'll get the torches out if they start hammering. Otherwise I'm super impressed with them. I only use compressed air...

    12v Cummins Swap Wiring

Whats nice about GMs of this era is the computer harness is separate from the engine and light harness. All the computer stuff comes out of the right side and all of the engine/light stuff comes through the fuse box connector on the left side.

1991 Suburban 3/4 ton: TBI to Holley Sniper conversion - stupid, or worth it?

I'm actually working on retrofitting a GM tbi to an old Buick. I think I'm going to use a megasquirt controller. I have the capability/software to tune the early computer but it is a pain. The megasquirt seems like a good option to use GM parts and bring the ecm into the 21st century

Both are available new still. RA has them both for $150ish.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles?

Step one remove the 6.2.... The best thing to do is have a full set of accurate guages and monitor them. I got about 170k out of my NA 6.5 before it started losing oil pressure. I nursed it to 200 before it finally bottomed the OP guage out. Keep up on the maintenance and don't ignore any issues.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not that versed in them, they're all just turbines to me!

    Vintage mag question

They are 15 spoke but not exactly same. These have years of shelf dust and grime on them. No pits/corrosion or gouging. Definitely need a power wash which I can do.

    Vintage mag question

I have a matching set of 4 I've been meaning to list. 15x10, 6 bolt pattern. I've owned them for 20 plus years, haven't been on a truck in about 15..

Step backwards over a TBI. Thats all those systems are. A good tune on your existing setup would be worth more.

    The infamous 10" bumper

My truck is one or two notches uglier than yours.. This bumper perfectly bridged the gap between the new hitch and box. A stock bumper would have looked odd. That's junkyard fresh paint too

    Will a 8.5 Camaro 10 bolt axle fit in a 1981 squarebody?

The spline change was a year thing, not car vs truck. All 8.5 axles were 28 spline into 87, beyond that they all went to 30 spline.
