Wiring gremlin - Nothing works unless trans is in reverse

I'd guess the linkage was probably providing a ground source when in reverse. The switch would melt with that much power going through it. Check your fusebox again but this time have the ground lead on the battery itself. If voltage appears at the fusebox then you know for sure its a ground...

Driving full time 4wd with front drive shaft removed

It was the full time 4wd case, i have no idea what the model was. It all started when the front shaft needed a u-joint badly. The old man is cheap and slow to finish any project. He pulled it out and took forever to repair and replace. My mother was the primary driver of it. They sold it in 99...

Driving full time 4wd with front drive shaft removed

My folks had a 77 k5 back in the day. My father routinely removed the front shaft in the summer months. Mileage improved. Definitely worth it.

How do I bypass the factory radio completely so I can just listen through Bluetooth?

I have several classics that I bounce between. I bought a Dewalt jobsite radio that is Bluetooth/fm that runs off the 20v battery system that I have plenty of. It has great sound and is easy to use/hide/transport. Way easier than messing with retrofitting or hiding something under the dash. Hide...

Need engine help!! At my wits end

Get a boroscope. Put it down the intake and look at all 8 intake valves, if its pulling through the valvetrain it'll be obvious- the valves will have build up and be oil soaked. Also scope the cylinders, specifically #8 for a cracked piston. Usually with a cracked piston the engine will huff...

Worthwhile to convert from TBI to Quadrajet?

I'm a q-jet guy. That being said I would not recommend this. TBI is no powerhouse but it dead nuts reliable. Figure out what the issue is and repair it. A high idle is probably a vacuum leak.

    Good deal, keep tweaking it!

    quadrajet heat soak

That's probably it, your choke is way to tight. When the motor is cold you want to turn it until the choke fully closes, no more. No need to preload the spring or anything like that- just enough for the blade to close. That should get you in the park.

    quadrajet heat soak

How many times are you pumping it before trying to start it? Also pull the air cleaner lid and see where the choke is at with your next hot start. It should still be wide open. If it's closed than it's adjusted way too tight.

    quadrajet heat soak

Those aren't heat soak symptoms. If you are holding it to the floor and having to clear it out, it's flooded. Heat soak shouldn't be much of an issue with aftermarket heads and intake that don't have an exhaust crossover either. That carb must be dripping fuel or its pig rich to begin with.

74 C10 front left disc locked

If the master has been replaced there could be a mismatch with the pushrod. This usually just causes a drag, but if its wrong enough I suppose the wheel could lock up. Lots of variables with different combinations of boosters and masters out there. A seasoned tech will always check the piston on...

    Convert to 350 vortec

Vortecs are easily identified by the four intake bolts per side vs six on a normal sbc.

    12 Bolt Pinion Bearing Pre-Load

6 year old thread guys and the OP hasn't been back in a couple of years. I've done a bunch of pinion seals. Throw out the Chiltons manual with this one. Pop the yoke off and replace the seal, tighten the nut by hand until you hit the crush collar. Add a 1/4 turn with all your might. Replace the...

    Where to find transmission lines

Geez.. not to sound like a jackass but if you're restoring you ought to be able to handle this. Flaring lines is 101 stuff. Reminds me of my cranky neighbor who restores pre-WWI cars. He's next level, and loves to **** on the resto guys who order all their chevelle parts new. Meanwhile he made...

2 piece front drive shaft loose

Is the truck lifted? Once they are over extended they become loose due to a short engagement between the shafts. That however may just be effed from a lack of grease. That is bone dry, and thats not good. That joint moves none stop as the axle hits bumps.

    Body and frame welding needed

That much patching on the bed sides is not cost effective and will not last a long time before flexing and popping off filler. The vertical welds of the patch have no meat for strength. It'll be a mess.
