    Crate engine swap advise please?

You'll be fine with the G80. I haven't had any problems. I also don't try to drift the truck, or spin the wheels just for show.

You now have 36* BTDC with your foot in it once the rpms come up, which is perfect. You also have 56* BTDC at cruise when both the mechanical and vacuum advances are in. Above 52* BTDC at cruise, you may get some surging. Watch for that. I would still back off the vacuum advance 4 crankshaft...

The Eaton Gov-Lock RPO code G80 is also known in some circles as the Eaton Gov-Bomb. If you spin both rears while making a tight right turn, like pulling out of a parking lot or side street into traffic, you can dynamite the posi inside the diff, which shoots shrapnel all over, including in the...

Let me tell you a little story. Back in, oh, 1966 or so, my cousin had a 55 Chevy. Bondoed up, grey primer, stripped the (heavy) bumpers off, the whole nine yards. He put a 435 horse 427 in it, Didn't change anything else, just the engine. He could spin the tires all day long. So he put...

Give it the other four degrees of base timing, and back off the VA to 16 crankshaft degrees. It makes a big difference. Buy the AF/R meter and get some numbers. A 12-230-2 cam -- no other changes -- will give you 290 HP @ 4000 and 420 ftlbs @ 2500. With 3.73:1 and 28" tires you won't be...

Sure, why not. The bungs are cheap. They go on the exhaust pipe, right after (about 6" is good) the header flange.

    Crate engine swap advise please?

Thanks, but there's also a lot of stuff I'm dumb as a post on. Haven't ever done it, or it's been a long time, whatever. I just read what other people say and try to learn, from MO and others. Whenever I do something on the truck, I research it pretty heavily before I do anything, and...

Yeah, I am way off the chart on mine as well, but the AFR meter says I am spot on. I would never have gotten there using the chart without the meter. 65/57 should be real close. Maybe a little rich in cruise, but not bad. I'd leave it for now unless you are going to buy a meter. You need to...

OK, couple things. 18" of vacuum means you should be running the 8" step-up springs in the Edelbrock. I stretched mine so they rested at 1/4" longer than they came at, to get closer to 9". The rule of thumb is the springs should be 1/2 of your idle vacuum, so that's why I say switch to the...

I would just stay away from the whiz-bang stuff. The problem with a fully adjustable gizmo is you have to fully adjust it. ;)

The Summit one MO pointed to looks OK too. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-850001r/overview/

This one looks right. Has the adjustable vacuum can. Just dial it in to 7.5 crankshaft (15 camshaft) degrees using a timing light. The instructions say to hook it to ported vacuum, which is nonsense. Connect it to manifold vacuum, the driver's side port of the Edelbrock...

Oh, and agreed with MO. Get a new stock HEI distributor, with standard curves. You got so much custom and mish-mosh of parts on that thing, no telling what is going on. The stock HEI distributor is not a bad piece, actually. We were overjoyed when GM brought that thing out. Made life much...

    Crate engine swap advise please?

OK, I read back over the whole thing. One big question mark is the cam. We don't know what it is. For getting off the post, you need torque down low. So one thing to think about is getting a cam kit -- cam, lifters, springs -- and going with either the 12-300-4 or the 12-230-2, for example...

That sounds lean on cruise and rich in the power circuit to me. If you take pi*r-squared for the jet and subtract pi*r-squared for the rod to get area of the opening, you are 0.0063 square inches on cruise and 0.0116 square inches on the power circuit. I would think numbers closer to 0.0080...

This all sounds OK to me. I would run R45TS at .045", but if you are not getting oil fouling that's probably OK. The MSD stuff I don't know about.

    Crate engine swap advise please?

Wow. Been busy, just catching up. Yup, with low vacuum you should use lower step-up springs. The general rule is that the step-up springs should be half your idle vacuum. So if you have 18" of vacuum at idle, like I do, you use the 8" springs and stretch them a quarter-inch to get them to be...

    Engine stalling issue

First thing on the Edelbrock is to pull the air cleaner, then loosen the step-up piston covers and swing them out of the way. Pull the step-up pistons out, wipe off the pistons and the rods, use Qtips with WD-40 or carb cleaner to clean out the step-up cylinders. Reassemble. Second thing is...

    82 K10 Gas Tank Replacement

LMC shows only one part number for the filler hose and vent hose, regardless of whether it is the 16- or 20-gallon tank, but looking at pics of the two tanks, I think you may be right. It sure looks like the filler hose fitting on the tank will end up in a different spot.

    82 K10 Gas Tank Replacement

And replace all the rubber hoses and clamps back there while you are into it. No difference in the filler hoses, fuel lines, senders, mounting straps or anything else between the 16 and 20 gallon tanks. Same-same. The tank is a bit longer is all.

New Engine Coolant Leak, Hi Temp.

Change the two gaskets to the block when you change out the water pump. It may come with them. Actually, water pump and radiator is good news. Like DoubleDingo said, the (copper) radiator can be soldered for cheap, and water pumps are cheap, and both are easy to get in and out. Really...

    Synthetic oil after break in

You will get better lubrication and less wear with synthetic oil. I use Mobil1 10W30. If you run synthetic oil in an older engine, you will find out how much better it is at getting into every little nook and cranny of the engine, because if yo uhave a leak, synth will find it! I also run...

    Really hot after shut off?

Understood. We are both describing the same reality, which we both understand. I just phrased it a little differently, in the way I think about it. I thought an additional explanation might help the OP because he indicated he couldn't understand why it would happen.
