    Refresh in near future

The engine does run great. And I don't have to paint the motor, but occasionally the wife and I hit the cruise in's and folks like to see the engine bay. But this was my real reason for pulling the motor besides fixing leaks. The prevous owner applied multiple layers of Ziebart undercoating on...

    Refresh in near future

Yep...that's what mine looks like, for the most part.. well, I did paint my valve covers...the wrong shade of blue.... Oh...and my water pump has a chrome pulley on it... That gave me a 1/2 mpg net gain...lol

I actually suspect the front passenger corner is leaking oil. It's puddled in the freeze plug.

    Refresh in near future

Yes, I have stock/factory valve covers and oil pan. I was going to put on a Milodon pan. PCV was replaced when I bought the truck 3 years ago. It was leaking oil then. I did put on a ventilated tranny oil pan in the spring. It has straight pan walls and is so close to the cross member, I have...

    Refresh in near future

With just under 100K in the clock, it's been slow leaking motor oil out front and rear crank ends....and maybe oil pan...hard to tell with crank leak. This is going to be a solo effort. I've never yanked a big motor before or even assisted, so this will be "fun"... First hurdle will be getting...

Q-Jet to Edelbrock carb swap - linkage question

Rebuild kits for the Qjet are easily had. Take your time and clean it up. Rebuild it. I love my qjet so much, I have a twin for just in case. Get Cliff's book on rebuilding qjets.

Q-Jet to Edelbrock carb swap - linkage question

When she pops back thru the carb, it's most likely...Timing could be out 180°.

Is this vapor locking, bad pump, or something else?

Oh, I do remember that tank being huge.

Is this vapor locking, bad pump, or something else?

I never heard of a 3rd tank. My dad had a 73 surb with 454 and tow package. It had twin tanks...Man, I don't know where you could tuck a 3rd tank in...lol

Is this vapor locking, bad pump, or something else?

I also vote for restoring frame to original length. I passed up so many C10s because the owner had hacked the frame.

    This blows...

Seriously, If you have zero knowledge about going down this road. ..it will most likely take you longer to bolt it on, than the engine, tranny, d/s, or rear end will last. Relying on the internet for guidance is silly. Get books by those who have done it. Get face to face with other who have...

    Hot, hot won't start..

Before, the original starter had maybe a half inch between pipes and starter....now, it looks like close to 1-1/2 inched of gap. Huge difference. And I bet, I'll pich up atleast a half mile per gallon, just from weight reduction.

    Hot, hot won't start..

Well today I decided to yank the original starter. This was one I found at Summit on the demo rack. I just can't believe the size and weight difference.

    Hot, hot won't start..

I absoultely luv this rad/fan set up. Painless make a great wiring harness for ele fan setup. The two row alum v/s the stock single copper/brass is hands down more effecient. I can grab the lower rad hose when I can't touch the top hose. You can search the swap post on here. The twin fans are...

    Hot, hot won't start..

Well, the exhaust manifold stove was falling apart and the stock manifold has some leaks. The aftermarket dual exhaust was about rusted thru at joints, so I needed to replace it soon. I live very close to Summit Racing and I picked up long tube headers and 2-1/2" stainless steel exhaust kit...

    Hot, hot won't start..

In retrospect, it makes sense that it's the starter. Because...my dad hsd a 73 (i think) Suburban and I can remember being on a camping trip and it being a hot day, pulling the camper,...stop for potty break...hop back in and nothing. Dad made me get out and hit the starter with a hammer...bang...

Here's the scerino: 78 Big 10 350/350, original qjet, 2 row alum rad - 2 pullers. Wrapped headers flange to flange. Occassionally... Hot, hot day 90°+. Been driving an hour or so. Pull into gas station to fill up from 1/4 tank left. Turn everything off. Fill up. Get in, put in key and turn to...

Fun Stuff (Statute of Limitations Has Run)

I'm sure you all heard of the microwave oven charged for one of the first space shuttles. And I think I remember a Cadillac engine on the books for another one as well. If I recall correctly, those involved got spanked and then it was business as usual.
