Well...I am pooped. The goal was to get the motor back in today, but the little things derailed that plan. 2 trips to SR for a p/s pump that finally fit. First on had the return line interferring with the block. Oil filter, oil....still forgot spark plugs. Converted the old dizzy into an oil...

Has anyone (who has pulled a motor) ever used a few tapered bolts to help guide the back of the motor in to line up with the bell housing? You know...grind the head of a bolt off then taper the shank down a little...screw them in the back of the motor. Maybe the bolt sticks out 1 inch. I wss...

Didn't get to it till afternoon. Then I had to run to SR for rear seal !nd to straighten out an issue with timing cover. The cover has to timing marks and the only oned they have are over at the 2:00 position. My timing marks are at 12:00 and you have to time thru the top of the water pump. I...

So, Grabbed some parts this morning and started wrenching. By early afternoon the valve stem seals were done. Half way thru my 25 year old spring compressor gave up, so another trip to parts house, then finished up. Then off came the intake manifold. I can't believe how loose half the intake...

Thanks. It was more of a physical thing. The hand surg has really been a limiting factor. I learned long ago, if someone put it together, I can take it apart. Getting old is not for the faint hearted.

Didn't get much done yesterday...spent time with friends... But I did find out that my valve stem seals are □ o-rings...there were 3 options. Took SR 3 tries to get the right ones. And oh, those are so much fun.... 47vyear old O-rings petrified years ago.

Took a good 8 hours of degreasing to get it clean enuf to approach and not get schmutzed. Surprisingly there is some factory blue left on the majority of it. A budfy of mine came over and confirmed my hunch that the intake is leaking oil at the back. I know one thing, I sure am glad I pulled...

Ok... Motor is out and I did it with no help (other than wife mentioned previously). All by me lonesome I did... And no bruises or bloody spots.....a tad sore. I don't even know where to start with the tens unit. The biggest hang up was the motor mounts. Not because of rust, but because I...

And this just cracks me up.... Ground strap from motor to pass side firewall... Held on by a 10mm bolt...freaking metric.... It shouldn't surprise me...I had a ford f150 and the bumper bolts were imperial. In fact, most of the frame bolts were imperial. Inside door sticker said made in canada...

I must of missed something, somewhere....or I was lied to... Everything I ever looked up for this engine said that it had no contacting points in the dizzy...i.e. nothing to replace unless the brain blew up. Because, when I got the truck, I did, plugs, wires and was gonna do the dizzy cap &...

My other thought was to take a grinder and "thin" out the area at the red line. They would still be connected, but now the area of "give/flex" is away from the ports. And here's my reasoning. The material at the ports is very thin compared to that bar spanning between the ports. That bar has a...

So, I have a question for those who have been there-done this.... The header motor flange is 3/8" SS. As you can see in the picture, cyl 4&6 are leaking. And reardless of the bolts used, the flange gets hot and expands away from the motor....of course it would. And I had been told this is...

Not bragging...it's just me. I kinda have an eidetic memory for things mechanical. I'm bagging bolts just to have them together...not labeling or numbering. When I was playing with first gen Goldwings, I had a bucket of bolts from them. You could pull a bolt out of the bucket and I could tell...

Bag and tag.....and the wife wonders why we go thru ziplock bags so quickly. As for the ziebart, the cab has 8 holes drilled just in the roof. The stuff runs down the inside "A" posts. And the back corners are just as messy as the engine bay.

Well...I had my wife do a quick search for an engine stand and found a local one for dirt cheap. That cinched it for me. I had set $50 as my lmit and this one was well under that. So I came home and got going on the "big yank". First off, I made up a sling for the hood and used a block and...

Mine smells like cosmoline, and yes it's still a very thick tacky liquid. I have been able to closely replicate the stuff. A 50/50 mix of mil-spec cosmoline and toilet bowl wax. Heated up to a thin mix then applied with a brush. It never hardends. It just gets thick and sticky. Mil-spec...

I have no doubt the multi layers of undercoating is what has saved this truck. Spent it's entire life in NEOhio...aka, salt capitol of the world. The front rockers need attention, but that's it. If I rub off all the undercoating, I get down to factory paint, even on the frame...black semi gloss...

Neither of the manuals say anything about dropping/loosening the crank to replace lower seals or gasket. The gasket doesn't go around the top of the crank. ...I'm a tad confused where a sneaky pete would be used.
