How much for my old bed?

Looking at truck beds on marketplace around me, I found about a half dozen that ranged from $250-$600, depending on condition, gate or no gate. I found one that was higher than that, but it had been for sale for 17 weeks. I suppose some of it depends on how quickly you want to sell. Someone...

    4L60 limitations

The best years of the 700R4 are 1987-1992. I cannot speak for others but I will speak for myself and the guy who has been rebuilding transmissions for me for a number of years. The later model 700 R4 are good transmissions. They are plenty strong enough for 400 HP. That said, there are folks who...

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

I can remember when NFL linemen were getting up to 300lbs and fans were like "OMG this is amazing!" Then 320lb, 330lb and some at 350lbs. Aaron Gibson, who played briefly for the Chicago Bears, set the record for the NFL and weighed 410 lbs at the time. Huge players that were fast and quick...

Help bringing this K20 back to life..

Smoke isn't uncommon for trucks that have been sitting for a few years. Rings stick, valve seals dry out. Driving them/putting miles on the motors once the truck is roadworthy can many times help. Products like seafoam, Berryman B12, Marvel Mystery Oil, etc can also help.

Vac Advance - Yes or No?

I had one not long ago where the centrifugal weights were staying out due to weak springs. It was an original high mileage distributor. I just thought it was worth mentioning.

    K20 pulling 19k lbs...

First and foremost, it is a safety issue. I have owned Squarebodies since the mid 80s. I also currently own and drive a late model 6.0 2500 Silverado. I pull equipment trailers loaded with everything from vehicles, to tractors, excavators, skid steers, etc. I pull RVs up to 32'. There are no...

    Just purchased a square body.

Welcome DH. I have a 74 C10 Custom Deluxe. Bought it from a widow a few months ago. 350 2bbl, all original, runs good. I put tires, belts, a heater core, a tune up, new seat covers and a paint job on it. Yes, it has some rust underneath and the engine is greasy and there isn't a thing wrong with...

    Favorite Project Truck Sales Pitches

I just want honesty. More and more I am seeing one or two pics on marketplace of the vehicle for sale, chained on a trailer. Text follows with something like "Bought to restore, changed my mind/no time/life/etc. That's fine, but you could also just say you bought it at an auction 2 days ago...

Who is or has run a 307?

I don't understand why they do it and I won't give them a pass. I'm not going to get into all the double and triple taxation baloney and what the word "private" means in "private property," but when the government makes an appointed time to access your land for the purposes of taking more of...

Who is or has run a 307?

Not meaning to cause thread drift, but the 74 C10 I have with a stock 350 2bbl gets about 11mpg. My 1980 K15 350 quadrajet gets about 14+. On a weekend toy or part time driver, I don't think it matters much.

Who is or has run a 307?

I had a neighbor that had an old early 50s Chevy truck/rat rod. He was on a budget. He bought a 307 on the cheap and rebuilt it for about $800. He put just enough cam in to lope a little and kept the two barrel on it. That would be a great application.

Who is or has run a 307?

307s were nothing to write home about. They never made a 4bbl version, they didn't make a lot of power and the gas mileage was so so. They came out in 1968 as a replacement for the 283, which in my opinion was a better motor. All that said, if you just need a driver they will do the job. Throw a...

Is it even possible to have a completely leakless 350?

I have a 1974 C10 with a 350 2bbl that has never been out of the truck. My wife wouldn't let me park it on the driveway if it leaked. Yes, the motor is 5 decades of grease, but nothing liquid. I have a 1980 K15 that has a very slight ooze from the passenger side cork valve cover gasket. Maybe a...

    I am what I am

Welcome! I was reinstalling a transmission in a 2012 Silverado when my neighbor stopped by. He asked if I was keeping the truck. I said no, it was a flip. I already have a late model 2500. I pointed to a rusty White and Carmine red 1980 GMC by the side of my shop. No A/C and the factory radio...

    Painting my 73

Looks good. I get what you wanted to do and kudos for staying out of the rabbit hole. I was just reading another thread elsewhere about a similar topic. The guy had a plain jane work truck and wanted to know what it cost to do a decent enamel single stage paint job. Every post was someone...

Drove while 2 quarts low on oil

Lots of stories about the forgiving nature of those old iron motors. They burned oil, leaked oil, and often magically used it without smoking or spotting the driveway. Yet they kept on ticking. Now try to run a late model Ford eco or GM 4 cylinder low on oil and the timing chains grenade and end...

    Towing with a 305 V8?

I have the same set up and the same mileage empty. I love the 4.10 gear. Highway towing any trailer from utility to RV to heavy equipment is from 8 1/2 to 10, but then I'm probably "that guy", even in the right lane.

How to increase your odds for success at automotive wiring, electrical installation and trouble shooting.

I had a guy stop by that owns a 73 C10. No headlights, no tail lights, no dashlights. He has the headlight switch pulled out, the tail light lenses off, he has 194 bulbs from the dash laying on the front seat, he has been under the truck pulling wires from the loom and all he can say is "There...

How to increase your odds for success at automotive wiring, electrical installation and trouble shooting.

In the 80s and 90s, I made assumptions because the trucks were mostly unmolested and in original condition. Now, in 2023, a 45 year old truck that has had 13 owners, 7 different stereos, CBs, equalizers/boosters, aftermarket lighting and guages, alarms, batteries, starters, alternators new and...

    Bench Seat Rebuild

Every squarebody seat I have upholstered, the foam is removable. Sometimes it is pretty snug and molded around the framework, but it comes out. It is still fairly easy to find a spare bench seat on Marketplace if the OEM is broken. I purchased foam on the last seat from LMC. Yes, I would agree...
