60 days in on my 90 day rebuild. Goin to try a motor upgrade next. Any advice on going from a 350 to a 454?
It is all preference. I don't know that a 454 is always an upgrade over a small block unless your primary purpose is power or visual appeal. -
High Compression Woes, good fix??
I've run motors, with those heads, at similar compression rates and higher with no blow by. GM put a lot of cars on the street running high compression motors without oil blowby. Rear disc vs drum
If you look back to when the trucks were new, they hauled quite of variety of heavy loads and equipment just fine. Unless you are looking to do a custom truck and have the money and time, drum brakes are fine.- GTX63

What new tools have you got lately?
Bought the gas powered Fortress 30 gallon air compressor for a shop I have with no electrical service. This girl is a beast. I picked it up about a month ago on sale and paid $1711.00 out the door. I'm sure most users are contractors; roofers, carpenters etc who load it in the back of a work... -
Dash Pad Help
I use a heat gun or hair dryer and remove all of the under padding as well, although most don't get it down to bare metal. It helps avoid lumps and uneven surfaces as well as gaps after installing a new dash pad. Just get a quality dash pad and avoid the ebay $69 throwaways and you'll be fine. -
Qjet to 2bbl swap?
Speaking from experience and as someone who drove them back in the day like granny with a short leg, I never, ever experienced better gas mileage with a Rochester 2bbl over a Qjet. All things equal, there may be a 20% difference, or less, in mpg between it and a V8.- GTX63

My best options have been to hit the vendors at truck shows during the summer. That is where I load up on high shipping cost items. #2 is if you have a reputable seller near you, go visit their store in person. Spending $100 in gas and a day trip might seem like a wash, but you know the stuff...- GTX63

It was a great show. The used part swap area had lots of great stuff and the big name vendors were there in force. And yes, it was hot! Funny thing it was just a few miles north from the Nashville Superspeedway where the C10 Nationals are held every fall. -

Coverlay over missing dash pad
The covers are more rigid than the OEM pad. They don't have a lot of "give" or flex so when the sun starts cooking over your truck, the daubs of glue are similar to driving a nail; it causes the areas around it to ripple. -

K5 Blazer values… possibly buying 86 k5
The SB K5 Blazers had a habit of rusting differently and much faster than the trucks. I saw Blazers that were 10 years old at the time that needed new metal just to support the seats.
