timing chain replacement selection advice / what if got after opening it up

I've always replaced the nylon cam gear with a steel one and new chain. The last one I did was on an Olds 455, it was a double tooth set. I wouln't do nylon on anything. The 455 had a lot of slop with only 80,000 miles on a 1972 455. A buddy had a 402 in a '70 Chevelle, he stripped all the teeth...

    New to the forum

Welcome to the forum Joe! Personally, I like the green color, the 6 cylinder and the manual transmission, I would keep it original down to th hubcaps myself. Sounds like good memories from it, why be in a rush to change things? As you get older, you may want to change things on it but I've found...

    TBI to carb process

The last TBI to carb I did was on an '88 Dodge W-150, 318, 4 speed manual. 1st year for TBI. I had endless problems with the TBI (intermittant fuel/ignition problems) so switched to a 2 bbl carb. I realize it's no GM but still, almost the same. No more electronic problems!

    Stripped bellhousing to transmission threads

You can also thread the holes and drill the ears on the tranny to accept 11/16" bolts if the existing one are 5/8". Keenserts are the way to go if you keep the original size.

    Stripped bellhousing to transmission threads

Repair it right the first time or you'll end up broke down on the road somewhere. Even if you replace the bellhousing rather than heli coils, you won't regret it.

    Here from Ohio

The way I'd do it is rebuild the original engine and leave it stock if it's in good condition. When I was younger, I would have modified it. Ultimately, it's your choice but you did sk for thoughts. Welcome! Send photos of it please. Sounds like a nice truck.

Leaking Optima red top battery X2

I saw a factory Mopar battery in a 1985 Dodge pickup that lasted 13 years, I was amazed. It was in a fleet vehicle at Denali national park and I was one of the mechanics there so I could keep track of it, that's the oldest functioning battery I've ever experienced. Anymore, I buy the cheapest...
