I am a V6 soccer mom now! Lol

I owned two different Dodge Caravan, bought both new. The 1st one was a '97, 3.0L V6, we got 231,000 miles on it before we gave it to my daughter to use. As long as you replace worn out parts in a timely manner, don't abuse it and change the engine oil regularly, you ought to get another 100,000...

    Vibration. K20 '76 th350 NP203 and a 400 motor.

I had a vibration in my '79 K20 after I replaced the 400 with a 350. The 400 flexplate is externally balanced whereas the 350 flex plate has no weights on it. It's something to check. I found the weight tearing off the flex plate. This was all 40 years ago so maybe I'm remembering wrong but I do...

    New hood hinges for 73-80?

I've found, over the decades that if you keep everything on the truck lubed such as hinges, pivot points, locks, frontend parts wherever there's a fitting and U joints, they all work reliably for many years. The key is doing it regularly. The owners manual has a lot of good info in it on...

    283 small journal questions

Of the three, I'd rebuild the 283. You can get hardened seats for the valves installed. You can buy fan spacers to extend the fan closer to the radiator and there are also longer fan shrouds. 283's are hard to come by anymore, I've run a few of them and I like them, good economy and V8 power...

What ate my front u joints? Dana 44

Amen to the short advice. Old U joints fail, hardly anyone greases them. I checked all the original U joints for tightness on a K20 I bought, greased them, hit the road and had one fail. I replaced them ALL at the same time soon after, better to be safe than sorry. A heads up on snow plowing...

    1976 GMC Straight 6

I had an integrated head on a 250 repaired about 20 years ago, never had any problems with it again. I took it to NAPA in Fairbanks, AK, they shipped it to Seattle for the repair, I had it back in a month. Mine was in an '81 Custom Deluxe SWB C10, 250, 3 speed on column, no power steering or...

    How far to go?

You don't have to restore it to like new to enjoy it, just replace things that are worn or broken. Faded is ok, chunks of missing seat cushion, not so ok, new shocks, stuff like that. I prefer stock myself but changing from single to dual exhaust could be nice, new tires but original rims and...

What are all grease able items on our trucks?

You can't learn if you don't ask questions. Also educate yourself in the repair and maintenance manual. I've found that practice makes me more proficient and repetitiveness (regular maintenance) keeps me sharp. It's great to see you take an interest in your vehicle, so many people just drive...

    79 k30 steering rebuild

You should also check your tire and rim for damage. Possibly the rim is bent. It could even be a wheel weight that came off. It's good to check the simple stuff first but by all means, replace worn parts and do regular inspections especially after hitting something.

    73 Park Brake Switch

I too have a brake lamp in the fuel gauge on my '75. I noticed I don't have a parking brake light switch and wondered what it was for. I guess now, that it was installed specifically for a faulty braking system, that was thoughtful of GM.

Pick the fav car you owned but follow instructions:

    Mine were: 1968 C/10, snb, 350, 4 speed 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS, 283, 4 speed 1975 K/20, 350, 350TH 1988 Dodge W/150, 318, 4 speed I liked them all but drove the '68 C/10 the longest of any of them.

Anyone ever put a 348-409 "W" motor in a squarebody?

A buddy of mine had a '62 half ton snb Chev 4x4 with a 348, it was pretty neat but he changed to a 283 instead. I think a rod bearing failed in the 348. I don't believe the truck originally came with the 348.

    shift indicator

I had a broken wire as . I thought about super gluing it back together then soldering it but finally bought a new one on ebay for $40. I also bought another one for a spare. I found out too that when you reassemble it in the dash, use lots of lube or it will hang up. Mine is for a 1975 K20...

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

If I had been thinking, I would have. It made a horrible racket all the way home. You're never too old to learn. I'll remember that if it ever happens again, thanks!

    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I had a 250 in a '81 Custom Deluxe that #1 piston went bad. I was driving down the highway at 60 mph and all of a sudden, there was a noise like a compression release being engaged. I didn't have a clue what the problem was but limped it home for 60 miles doing about 45 mph. When I got it home...

    One side sagging

I read most of the fixes and they seem to take a lot of time, energy and money. Mine sagged to the driver side as well so I got underneath and looked things over , all looked well except the 45 year old original shocks. Shocks wear out sooner than 45 years. I bought a set of 4 Monroe heavy duty...

    Straight 6 to V8 swap?

I'd stay with the 250. I had an '81 SWB Custom Deluxe with the 250 and 3 speed on the column for 11 years. I too thought about installing a V8 but the 250 was pretty reliable. I did have a piston come apart once but just replaced the assembly (piston, rings, connecting rod and bearings) and it...
