What have you done to your square lately??

I got the swaybar bushings replaced yesterday. I'm in the process of replacing the carpet and seat reupholstered. The carpet is installed but waiting on the seat.

    thermostat

If the engine does not maintain a steady temp such as 195 degrees when warm, you need a thermostat. I replace the thermostat, hoses, flush the cooling system and replace with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/coolant and water whenever a buy a used vehicle. Also, it never hurts to do a pressure check on...

    New (dirty) oil filters?

I wouldn't be concerned. What you do is fine, at least you look. I've seen faulty filters over the years, very rare though, good eye!

Two tone paint jobs with white steel wheels

Dark green sounds good, that way you don't have to worry about getting under the hood or door jams. White bumper and white wheel. I think that would look nice.

    Tailgate Replacement

No wrecking yards down your way? My local yard has about a dozen of them laying around. I just picked one up off the ground a few days ago, it still had the brushed aluminum piece on it. I leaned it up off the ground so no one would step on it and ruin it. I would have bought it but I was on my...

    Spare tire mount?

Look in the LMC catalog, there are two or three different kinds. Mine was missing under the bed so I bought one that mounts in the bed. I placed it to the front on the passenger side. If you have a torch and welder, you can make your own. I personally prefer the under the bed mount, out of sight...

    Radiator Question.

I'd get the old one repaired. I had a GM, 1972 Olds 455 radiator repaired last year for $60, no plastic!

    Cleaning differential

Brake Kleen it and blow it with compressed air after you wipe it clean. If there's no slop or broken pieces, call it good it looks good in the photo..

    75 Chevy Fleetside

I too own a '75 from the original owner but it was born a K 20, great trucks! Have fun with yours. I'd love to see photos as well.

    Dome light

Trace the feed to the lamp. Mine is a '75 model, I don't know if yours is different but splice the feed to the lamp through the switch, on or off. The hardest part will be locating the feed.

    Slight hood bow

As more than one person has told me over the years: keep the hinges oiled! I think that's the biggest cause of bent hoods, hinges that seize. Of course, as soon as it's forced, it's bent. I've been lucky, I'm one of those that keeps things well oiled and greased. A couple squirts of lube a...

    Rear bleeder access trouble

Do you have a photo? There's always a way to get at them. While you're waiting to figure it out, spray penetrating fluid on the bleeder valves, it'll help.

What have you done to your square lately??

I replaced the blower motor a couple days ago. It was squealing, I applied lube to the shaft and bushing on the OE one but installed a new one anyway.

    Paint Battery Tray

I'm surprised the support wasn't coated. I bought my tray and support from LMC as well, both were coated black. I sprinkle baking soda around the battery tray and battery about once a year while checking connections for corrosion then hose it off with water. The baking soda neutralizes the acid...

    Solder Connectors

I love the solder/heat shrink connectors especially on heavy equipment and off road trucks. The tail light connectors on dump trucks always corrode and come apart with straight crimp connectors but with the solder/heat shrink, I've never had one fail. Great invention in my opinion.

    Thermal Compound HEI Module

Don't be shy about the dielectric grease and keep a spare module in your glovebox, you never know!

Do I need a block heater?

The circulating 1500 watt heater is the Cadillac but if the engine is out, install a block heater on both sides if they'll clear. Just use one at a time, if one goes out, you still have the other. I lived in AK for 24 winters, I'm speaking from experience. It can't hurt to install a battery...

    Unwritten rules of mouldings?

I wish mine never came with molding. When I offroad, the brush wants to peel it off. I guess if you keep it on the pavement or road, it's not that big of deal. As long as it did come with trim, I'd like to keep it original and keep the trim on but it's hard when there's upper and lower...

another mysterious, 30 year old truck noise thread LOL

That's the 1st thing I'd check too, P/S pump. I'd check all the pulley's as well, ,tensioner, water pump bearing. You can isolate the noise with a stethoscope (homemade).

Where does your overflow bottle mount on your square?

It's interesting to see all the photos of the different locations and shapes. Here's where mine is mounted on my '75 Scottsdale.
