    Nasty Noise Coming From Flexplate/Converter area

    On my '79 Silverado K20 with a small block 400, the welded balance weight on the flex plate came loose and made a racket like you describe. I don't know if yours is externally balanced but it's one more thing to look at.

    I've found any lubricant works, some are messier than others but the most important thing is to LUBE IT REGULARY. You can wipe off the excess. I lube the door and hood hinges at least 3 times a year. Where I live it attracts dust but I also hose off under the hood at least a couple times a year...

    I can't see very well but put a mirror on the back end of the intake manifold and check that out. It may be running down. If you can, spray the area off with brakekleen and blow it real clean with compressed air, it will give you a better idea from where it's coming from.

    I live in AZ where temps are over 100 regularly and I've always ran 10w30 conventional oil with no problems in a 1975 350. Go with what the book calls for.     Turbo 350 and fluid question.

    Drive it some more, say 100 miles then drain it, see if there is any metallic shininess to the fluid, if there's not, you're good to go. Why was it low 3 qts in the first place, a leak?

    Have you checked the tire balance? If they're not balanced you'll get a rough ride at highway speeds. Maybe a weight came off. Also, the shocks look old, I'd definitely replace them.     Amen on the fuses. If a link goes, it usually takes other wires with it and makes a melted mess! Plus, thet're hard to find. I've never had a problem on GM products, most Ford.
