Never mind , I just acquired the front axle off of a K20.

    Thinking about streamlining my tools.

I’m by no means a brand loyalist, but I tend to lean towards Milwaukee simply for the fact M18 batteries are very abundant. On one of my few Bauer tools, I run a cheap M18 battery adapter in it, If my two last Dewalt Batteries die before the tools do, they will be getting M18 adapters as well...

1985 scotsdale stepside duel fuel tank

Welcome. Rock auto is where I ordered my tanks, together they cost a little less than $200 shipped at the time. Also check and see if your tank valve and selector switch work. If they don’t, now would be a good time to diagnose and repair them. The same goes for your fuel guage.

    Lost keys

Older squares without the locking vent window latch button, can just have the vent window opened from the outside of with a skinny screw driver or something similar stuck through the gap and then you can just stick your arm through the window opening and pull up on the lock rod.

Passenger door won’t lock from inside without key in door or lock from outside with key in door

After some research and much frustration, I think someone at some point just put driver side pawl in the passenger side and left it detached from the linkage so the door would work from the inside. Junk yards and body shops that don’t know the wiser or simply don’t care can sometimes do stuff...

Passenger door won’t lock from inside without key in door or lock from outside with key in door

I thought about that, but when manipulated outside the the truck with nothing attached, it seems to work as intended with its full range of motion, so lack of lubrication doesn’t seem to be a factor this time.

Passenger door won’t lock from inside without key in door or lock from outside with key in door

I installed new key lock cylinders on my ‘85 C10, driver door works as intended, though the passenger acts up when one attempts to lock it from the outside or on the inside when no key is the door. Turning the key to the left locks the door, like one would expect, but when I turn the key back to...

    What are these?

If the truck has a SM465 transmission in it, those cables could have been for a PTO, or a previous owner thought about installing one. One cable for on/off and another for direction.

Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!

the “50 mile highway trip” referenced earlier was with no hills/mountains, and I never went above 75 mph, some sections of the drive, the limit is capped at 65 mph. Also keep in mind, I’m reading the the truck’s built in Avg MPG counter and not doing the math myself. I may do the math myself on...

Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!

Yesterday I did a 50 mile highway trip in my 04 2500HD 4x4 with 6.0,4L80, and 4:10 gears and the truck’s mpg estimator read 14.2 MPG. When I drive strictly around town, it dances around 12 MPG. As for fuel injection conversions on squares and other older vehicles, like others said don’t ever do...

Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!

I wonder how the folks the 292 and 4.3 equipped trucks do mpg wise. I don’t see too many V6 or L6 squares out in the wild. I don’t know if they were just bad sellers back in the day, or everyone just did a V8 swap at the soonest opportunity given.

Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!

My ‘85 C10 (q jet equipped 350, 350C transmission, and 3:08 rear end) can get 12ish mpg when I drive in a tame, civilized manner. If I stuck to highway only, I could probably get a consistent 13-14 mpg.

Definitive interchangeable parts thread 73-87(91) (non-drivetrain)

Door glass: as discussed earlier, 73-76 and 77-91 door shells are different. However, all pre ‘81 doors use thicker door glass. Switching between thick glass and thin glass is just matter of swapping the glass channel and applying the appropriate weather strip.

    Door Compatibility

You should be good to go. 1977 and onward is pretty much the same door shell, even though the plastic inner panel changes shape after 1980, all the parts can be mixed and matched with no compatibility issues. 73-76 doors have different inner skins and have some unique components.

Wanted: 8 lug front D44/10 bolt parts.

I have a 6 lug 10 bolt I’m trying to convert into a 8 lug to match my 14 bolt rear. I’d be open to either backing plates, spindles, and hub/rotor assemblies or a complete front axle assembly for the right price, as long as it’s a 8 lug that fits on a GM truck.

    First thread 1982 C10/C20 differences

I’d argue that C20s actually makes a lot of sense for a performance build since they have beefier parts and bigger rear ends from the get-go. Sure the “C10” name has been romanticized more to the point that people often erroneously call K10s “4x4 C10s” but the C20 is far from just simply a parts...

    Vacuum actuator for kick panel

I don’t think GM ever really made significant changes to these things during the square body’s entire run, so as long as you hook it up in a way that the door/door linkage doesn’t bind, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

If you converted the power window switch which one would you choose?

I’ve just learned to tolerate the OEM switches at this point. In my experience, as long as you keep the contacts clean, they’re pretty reliable. If I had to make something else work, the pre-95 GMT400 switches could potentially work, but certainly wouldn’t look right.

    Is this worth it

My logic for buying stuff like that, is buy one for the sum of parts and not the vehicle itself or the story tied to it and make offers accordingly. Another important thing to remember is that some people are either ignorant or liars when it comes to selling stuff. The “383 stroker” that is...

    Is this worth it

Nah, they’re busy looking for cat-eye GMT800s to put American Force wheels on. As for the truck in the OP, I’d personally offer a maximum of $3200, and that’s only after I confirmed the body has more steel than bondo. From the pics, I can see a cheap paint job (implement paint perhaps?), a...

ETA: The Maroon car title is clean, the grey car only has a bill of sale, sorry for any confusion. I know this isn’t the best place to try to sell any Ford related stuff, but these look cool and enough for me to give them a pass. A relative of mine bought these with the intent to build one car...

84 K1500 stalls when slowing down.

Update: It looks like the choke adjustment isn’t even close to being correct. I’ll toy with that some and see what happens.
