How do new cars connect to internet ?

The biggest fear generated from all of this, is the ability for someone with the right access to brick a vehicle at will. Someone with programming experience could likely make a bricked car run again, but it would take much time and effort to do every vehicle. A skilled cyber terrorist or...

    Looking for 83-84 GMC Grille

The 83-84 style bezels actually work quite nicely with the 85-87 grille.

    Looking for 83-84 GMC Grille

Someone could probably use something like a FARO arm to scan the middle emblem of an original grille and make a CAD file of it. If someone did that, we could just 3D print emblems to graft on to the unlicensed grilles.

    Looking for 83-84 GMC Grille

Those grilles have the correct 6 panels, but lack the center emblem due to being unlicensed reproductions. There are licensed reproductions of the 85-87 3 panel grille, but unfortunately none for the 6 panel 83-84 grille. Maybe if we bug LMC and USA1 enough, we can get a run of licensed 83-84...

    GMC vs. CHEVROLET

Perhaps they ran out of the Chevrolet style side trim, and just said "screw it."

    What is this device?

You're right, it does appear to be a solenoid, I had a brain fart and called it a relay. As for purpose, someone likely put it there to fool potential thieves into thinking the truck has engine problems and abandon it, once the carb runs out of fuel.

    What is this device?

I can't be sure, but since the black box on top looks like a relay, and it's coming from the fuel tank, I'm going to guess, it is someone's improvised anti-theft device. If it works like I think it does, there is probably a hidden switch somewhere that opens the valve and allows fuel to flow...

    Should I?

The lack of fender emblems and drip rails also hints of a rushed repaint (some people do omit them intentionally for their own personal preference rather than cost cutting though.) but a k20, is still a k20, and would've been worth a gamble for parts alone at the $2500 price tag.

    Should I?

Square bodies in general are not inherently rare, but certain variations of them are, and hence command a higher price. A K20 in decent condition like what the OP is looking at is not super easy to find in today's market without paying a premium in many places. There are also ignorant impulse...

    Should I?

As long as there is no rust issues, I'd say go for it. The good thing about 4x4s (and squares in general), is that even if you do a buy a turd on accident, you can still part them out and profit, on the condition you bought it cheap enough to begin with. This particular truck looks to be a steal...

    700r4, gas to diesel difference

Today I learned the 700r4 was a factory option in a 6.2. I've never owned a 6.2, I always just assumed they were wall equipped with 400s this entire time. Sorry for my bad advice earlier...

    700r4, gas to diesel difference

While a 6.2 isn't exactly a power house, I'm not sure if I'd trust a stock 700r4 to go behind it, whether it fit or not. I'd suggest selling the 700r4 and finding a TH400. If you are good with electronics, a 4L80 could work nicely, if adapters exist for it. The 700r4 was intended for use in 1/2...

    Little tips and tricks

My preferred method of taking the window crank handle retainer off, is to use a small hook tool to grab and just jerk it out. It works pretty quick without damaging anything, everytime I've done it. Here's a pic of the tool I'm talking about:

    frame difference

There's about a 2 inch difference in wheel base length (The Suburban is shorter) that prevents an 8 foot bed from fitting correctly. I think the frame contours are little different towards the rear as well. Like others said here, things like cab and fuel tank mounts are also unique to their...

    frame difference

With a frame stretch and lots of body work, you could try to recreate this monstrosity:

    frame difference

A long bed stepside box is pretty rare during the 73-87 years, you'd be looking a long time for one. I'd suggest either stretching the frame to match a pickup wheelbase or just building a custom flat bed for the Suburban frame.

    Replace

I'd also suggest trying to rebuild your vent windows, before trying to retro-fit one-piece glass. The one piece glass looks neat, but you're in a bind if you break anything that is proprietary to it.

    Replace

As long as you keep everything in the year 1977, you should be good. In 1978, the inner door skin changes. You can buy replacement door skins, and weld them in place to use different style panels, but for your application, I'd just use '77 panels, or modify your '76 ones.

    Little tips and tricks

When changing power window motors or window regulators, use a piece of gorrilla tape across the top of the door frame and on each side of the glass to capture the door glass in the mostly raised position (or just low enough to access the window sash.) This is much easier than removing the glass...

    90-91 Trip/Speedo in an 85

I'd look into getting a digital conversion box for your original speedo like this one.: https://speedhut.com/categories/speedbox.html It's a little pricey, but more versatile.

    7.3 Powerstroke swap

I've seen it done to older Fords plenty of times, a square body would likely be pretty straight forward, if you are willing to commit yourself to designing your own engine mounts and transmission cross members. A 6BT Cummins swap would be easier, since many have done it and many vendors sell...

    Hood ornament question

I just looked at the SPID sheet for my '84 K1500 Sierra Classic with a hood ornament. There is one item listed as "Option # ZY5 Exterior Decor Pack." My '85 C10 Silverado without a hood ornament lost it's SPID sheet long before I had it, so I can't really compare. Unfortunately the hood ornament...

    Quadrabog bogs

What kind of condition is the tank on that truck in? If the tank is rotting on the inside, then pieces of it will get sucked into the filter in the carb, and cause fuel starvation at higher speeds, due to heavily restricted flow. This can happen with any carb, not just a Q jet. One downside to...

    Farm find 89 Chevy V3500 Cab/chassis DRW 454

Interesting. From the look of the lower dash, It looks like it was a white truck that was painted blue at some point. It's also nice to know I'm not the only one drinking Coors Banquets when I work on my stuff.

I have had two different '85 Silverados. One had the hood ornament, the other did not.
