    Which Master cylinder......mismatched parts

Not at all possible....I remembered doing a similar swap, but on a '72 vega of all things. I swapped the front brakes and hubs from a S10, and this is where the master needed to be upgraded to a 2nd gen camaro version, advice came from the vega gurus. Everything worked very well. Same theory...

What have you done to your square lately??

Got my carpet, set covers and several fluid lines from LMC yesterday. Hate the seat cover, it's too light a tan. Going by SMS in Canby Or. to see if they have the correct fabric to do it right. The carpet they sent me was light tan cut pile, which is incorrect for a '73....found out they don't...

    Steering box

Okay, I just spent the past half hour with Summit, you're correct, it's collapsable. Says so in the descript, and beings it's 3/4 DD/30 spline on one end, and 1" DD/48 spline on the other, it's collapsable. Holley uses the same pictures, so I had to verify. .....it took me a half hour because I...

The Holley shaft in your link is solid, non-collapsable, but the one you pictured is collapsable....so confusing.

    Which Master cylinder......mismatched parts

I've been bit by an improper master before. The reservoir capacity needs to be sized to displace the fluid required when the piston is moved, bigger piston, more fluid. The calipers on the D60 are quite a bit bigger than the D44 caliper. This system is all new except the prop valve, which came...

    Which Master cylinder......mismatched parts

'73 K20, rear out of a C20 with 11 inch brakes. Hydroboost and Dana 60 out of a '89 V3500. So, the calipers are much larger capacity than a Dana 44 out of a typical K20....so that means I'd have to order the master for a K30 or V3500 to accomodate the front discs. The 1 tons never came with 11...

What have you done to your square lately??

Pulled the C20 out of hibernation to prep for the body swap. It's been sitting in the lean-to for 10 years with crap stored in and around it, cat's peeing on the wheels, sleeping on the roof, sliding down the flanks, etc. It cleaned up pretty well, will clay bar and buff after it sits on the K20...

    Steering box

That GM part no. you referenced is discontinued. The Dorman shaft you referenced has a DD upper connection which is applicable to a late square body, not the earlier splined column. Once again, bits and pieces of the puzzle. Somewhere, sometime, someone will post the entire story.

    Steering box

Soooo agree......a simple rebuild is indeed simple once you're familiar with the how-tos. It'll only cost $30 or so. I just did this for the 3rd time, and very happy with each result. I understand redhead machines for larger bearings, or at least they claim they do, but is that necessary?? I...

Another steering shaft Jeep swap issue

Read a few threads on this before I bought the shaft, now I've noticed the differences. This is for a '73 with tilt. It's got the splined column shaft. After getting the jeep shaft in the mail, it has a "D" upper borgeson joint. Looked at the column I stole from the '89 V3500 and it's got a "D"...

    Hydroboost power steering pump difference

Here's a snapshot of the 2 pressure valves, the one on the right is the standard, the left is the hydroboost version. Indeed different......I'll be just swapping these valves and my reservoir and call it a day.

    Hydroboost power steering pump difference

Okay, I took a quick look at both control valves and didn't notice a difference, but I'd imagine it'd be very slight. I'll take a better look tomorrow. Thanx for that, that makes it simple.

    Hydroboost power steering pump difference

Okay, another concern on the hb conversion to my '73. Backstory, I stole all the hydroboost components off a '89 V3500, including the pump. I wanted to use my old pump, non-hb that was original to the '73, but it was missing the second port on the reservoir. I also needed the pulley, double v...

    Carpet for K20 bastard

I'll do that. So, if I understand this correctly, there are 3 humps, a 2 wheel drive column shift, a 2 wheel drive floor shift, which you're calling a high hump, and the 4 wheel drive hump, also a high hump but shaped differently. I can see why they'd only offer 2 versions.

    Carpet for K20 bastard

You're saying the later square bodys have the high hump, meaning '80-'87 I'm assuming. Then you say get the '73 high hump version....that's real confusing since they list 2 seperate carpets for the '73 K20 and the '80-'87 K20.

    Carpet for K20 bastard

I've got a '73 C20, converting to K20 and using the tranny hump from a 89 V2500. Do I buy the carpet for the year appropriate? LMC doesn't even cover the v3500, so if I buy for the year, do I pick the '80-87 version of their carpet?

    89 454 exhaust manifolds BIG

Pulled these off the 89 V3500 and set them aside. Then, today, I pulled the original manifolds off my '73 C20 454 and the difference in size is very noticeable, not the outlet, but the runners themselves and the log. My question is, has anyone flow tested these to give numbers to what I suspect...

    Body weights, for mockup

Agree with you all......I sat on each corner and it may have moved 1/4 inch, being 200lbs. Not worth even considering.

    Body weights, for mockup

I've got to measure for my drivelines and only have a rolling chassis, no body. I could guestimate bed, loaded cab, front clip with rad, engine components, fluids etc.....but I'm sure some have been through this already and share their research. I've got the naked block, trans and transfer...

    Transmission x-member 4X confusion

'76 K20 frame, '89 V3500 turbo 400, 205 transfer, and Dana 60 front,'73 C20 14 bolt rear. Using the transfer cross member out of the '89 V3500 that I modified, I added 2 inches which should have compensated for the 8 inch dually frame rail to the 6 inch frame rail of the K20.....that didn't...

    Transmission x-member 4X confusion

Dug out a 454 block and got the trans back from the fabricator, mocked the drivetrain up and it's about 2 inches too low at the trans/transfer mount. Not understanding this, since the frame is 2 inches narrower and that's what I added to the crossmember. I'm just going to stuff 2 inch square...

    Transmission x-member 4X confusion

Front shaft is fine, at least it was in the dually, and wouldn't change in the new frame. By doing this mod, it assures me everything from the transfer forward will be the exact same. The dip in the x member on the passenger side clears the mount ring of the front drive shaft, and the angle will...

    Transmission x-member 4X confusion

If it's too low, I can easily just shim it up. If I put it in the factory "below the rails" position, it would be an inch higher with no adjustment other than shims between the rails and member, which I think is hokey.
  24. 7

    Transmission x-member 4X confusion

It's the square body dually. I'm using the factory 3/4 ton engine x member. Running a 2.5 lift, so this should help a bit. I'll continue the fab work.

    Transmission x-member 4X confusion

I may have overthought this.....I'm converting my '73 C20 to a K20 using the drivetrain from a '89 Dually 1 ton 3+3. Using the 454, turbo 400 and the 205. The X-member I'm also using from the dually, but the frame measures 8 inches deep, while the frame I'm using is 6 inches deep. The added 2...
