I would be curious about the exhaust, to add to @squaredeal91 said, is the catalytic convertor still on the truck? Restricted/plugged exhaust is a possibility after all these years. I would want to know about the timing. Get a timing light, unplug the magic wire (its under the brake booster)...- Redfish

2 inch Rough Country Lift 76 K10
I went with a Skyjacker lift and modified it slightly to suit my taste. You can call it a 2 inch lift. I am running the 33x12.50-15 Coopers. This is MY look, it may not be what you want.- Redfish

Decorative front license plate poll

New TBI injectors causing surging
You can buy a throttle body rebuild kit that includes the Orings and whatever else is required to freshen up your original injectors. It's not expensive, I picked one up from O'Reilly's.- Redfish

IS 350 TBI compatible with E10?
I have been running E10 in my 1987 TBI with no apparent issues. It probably has some effect on the rubber components of the fuel system but I have not seen that yet. I switch from E10 to pure gasoline depending on availability and honestly cannot tell any difference in performance or fuel mileage.- Redfish

I have to ask, have you ohmed the wire from switch to switch? Is there any chance that the contacts in the driver's door switch are the problem? I would put a meter across the driver's door switch contacts and measure that resistance and I would measure the voltage exactly the same way you... -
Whats you gas mileage on your squarebody truck?
A brand new KLR? I kind of hope it gets better than 41mpg. My DR 650 gets anywhere from 46 to 51 on paved roads. Somewhat less off-road depending on all of the obvious factors.- Redfish

I can speak with some authority about a 1987 because mine is relatively low mileage and is all original. 1987 had a single wire sending unit right above the oil filter and a two wire switch below the distributor. I second @Ricko1966 on the tapered threads. The new sending unit will have a small amount of dry sealant painted on the threads. It's usually a dull red color. The sending unit has to ground through the engine, it is a single wire system. I did apply teflon tape to the threads on the...- Redfish
