Looks like bad news for me

Thanks guys, you have not insulted me and I appreciate your time and help. I'll give it another try. BTW, that window/power lock diagram is really helpful.

Looks like bad news for me

I checked the metal fuse (breaker) for continuity between the two spades. It quickly went to zero.

Looks like bad news for me

Yes, the fuse checks good. Before I put the fuse back in, should I check for continuity from the right pin to the switch? The switch has three wires. Which one needs to be tested for continuity? Sorry for the dumb questions.

Looks like bad news for me

After my power door locks finally quit working and taking my door panels off at least four times, I finally discovered that the 30 amp metal fuse is getting 12v to the left connector and 0v to the right one. The fuse itself is good. Does anyone have any ideas on the cause? The thought of pulling...

    Automatic door locks not working

My door locks have been working sporadically for the last 3-4 weeks and then, they completely stopped. I pulled off the drivers side door panel and there is no power going to the switch. I checked the 30amp accessory fuse and it's good. The black tape around the wires is a little frayed where it...

    Rochester Q-Jet running rich

Thanks guys. The idle is fine, I have a three port fuel pump and it had a complete tune up about 14k miles ago. However, it sure kind of sounds like that fuel pump suggestion. As I remember, that pump puts out 5-1/2 to 6 psi of pressure.

    Rochester Q-Jet running rich

My original carburetor was rebuilt about four years ago and seems to perform well. I've noticed that after a short trip, about forty minutes later when I start the engine and rev it a few times, it blows a few puffs of black smoke. Is this something that can easily be fixed by adjusting the...

    AC Compressor Belt

I am the second owner of this truck and one of my goals is to try to keep everything as original as possible. In the last six years that I have been driving the truck 4-5 times a week, I have replaced the compressor five (5) times. All of the "NEW" compressors are all the same and are sold under...

    Cab Steps

I am over six feet tall so I have to have the seat all of the way back. Mounting the step just in front of the tank would make it awkward getting in so I put them back on the shelf.

I said red but it may have been orange.

Two questions, one about color and one about options

Mine are also black and I’m almost 100% sure they haven’t been messed with. They bolt to the head in four places along the lip. Both of the ‘83 engines I mentioned were red. I thought all 350’s were red and the 305’s were black and that’s how you could tell them apart.

Two questions, one about color and one about options

I was reading a recent thread in which two separate guys included a picture of their '83 305 engine. What was the factory color of the valve covers for this engine? Last question, would a 305 sb with a q-jet, 700 r4 and a 2.73 rear end be an available (common) option for '85? Thanks

    Let’s talk PCV systems.

Hey Rick, thanks for your reply and I apologize for the delayed response. The truck is stock but the air pump is removed and the Decel valve is gone. The original emission label is there and it shows two hoses going from the TVS to the carb and one going to the EGR and the other one going to the...

    Let’s talk PCV systems.

I understand that on a factory setup, the top 3/16" hose on the Vapor Carbon Canister connects to the Thermal Vacuum Switch. The TVS has four ports and two of them appear to hold vacuum when the temperature rises enough to close the switch. My question is where does the canister get vacuum from...

    AI Mechanic??

Hey guys, I was wondering how many of you have seen and read this very interesting piece on mechanical diagnosing and repair for vehicles. It even mentions trucks in the era that interest us. This is a fun read, IMO, so enjoy.

    Quick question

It's my understanding that cool/cold intake air to the carburetor provides the best performance. So, on a stock SB factory setup with a q-jet, would it be okay and not mess anything up, to remove the manifold vacuum hose from the air cleaner temperature sensor allowing the air door in the air...

    Let’s talk PCV systems.

If you are standing in front and looking into the engine bay, the device, a little larger than a one pound coffee can, is located on the lower right and is attached next to the headlight. It is called a canister on the emissions diagram and has four hoses attached to the top. One of the hoses...

    Let’s talk PCV systems.

I am a little late to this discussion but I do have one question: with the hose to the fresh air canister disconnected at the PVC valve, does it indicate a problem if I can't pull any air by sucking on the end of the hose?

    Anti theft devices

This is a long thread so be sure to read all of it. I drive my truck whenever I need to leave home, about 2.5k miles a year, and haven’t had any issues for five years. I never leave it with valuables in sight, try not to leave it unattended for more than two hours, turn the front wheels before I...

How to identify my Rochester carb? '84 GMC, 305

I have an all original '84 C10 with the 305 (LE9) engine and the carb number is the same as yours.
