Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

I *Just* published the Shop Build Intro video, and in it, you'll see the lift placement. Even though there's no lift yet. Or concrete. Soon, though. Soon.

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

Hailstorms: It happens. We just recently got one that was pretty intense, but did no real damage. Well maybe damaged my roof a little, but my roof was already pretty messed up. If it rained a lot here I'd be in trouble lol. We don't get haboobs or any super crazy dust storms. My vehicles are...

Measurements done. Didn't attempt the drive, and didn't need to.

I will measure my squares and let you know. My goal has never been to drive these into the container- it's the tool and parts storage + workshop.

I definitely need to call before we dig. But, they don't mark private stuff. Just public utilities. I researched that before buying my own locator kit. Really, it was $100 well spent. In case anybody wants to try one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3XKXVZS/

There *might* be, but temperature isn't the only problem. There needs to be a vapor barrier against the steel on the inside of the container to prevent condensation. "Container rain" is a thing. I sincerely appreciate the thought though. It would be a lot cheaper than the spray foam!

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

Not much progress, but a little: Settled on metal stud framing and spray foam insulation. And, uncovered a bunch of mysteries about where the electrical on this property is. I now have a plan to save a ton of money on running 240/120 to the container, AND to a future RV and office. Good stuff...

I lived in Castle Rock WA for 3 years, and then halfway between Olympia and Aberdeen for 7 years. This is why I call it the Pacific Northwet

HAHAHA right. It's my buddy's car, we're just going to get it running so he and his wife can escape to wherever and be comfortable. I just needs a typical "sitting for a decade" revival. New fuel, tires, a couple of hours and maybe some parts. We have tune-up stuff for it already. Just needs a...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

According to my friends, I'm half way there. I currently own more cars that don't work than do. I have my DD (Tahoe) my off-roader (Burb) and now the 77 K20 project (total rebuild), a 95 XJ project (motor, who knows what else), and a commuter car project (piston re-ring and maybe a rod bearing)...

That's the last thing I need. I only have 2/3 Acre of room! I'd barely have enough space to turn it around :Big Laugh:

Thank you for that! I wish I could afford a Bendpak. I'll be going with a ~$2500 from wherever. That's another research project I haven't got to yet. I thought I had one picked out, but now I need to dive deeper.

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

No apology needed. In fact, I plan on training myself to use it properly well before I actually put it to use. I have to know everything. I'm not putting my car, or anybody else's on a lift without such training. Safety first! I'll probably have safety straps on each arm full time. Or chains...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

No, not at all. It's just not a thing here. If you want water, you dig a well or have it trucked in if you're not connected to utilities. Here, a small sump pump would take care of that without a second thought. Or a small sump emptying directly into some gravel would work. But, that's...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

That's an excellent suggestion! Again, excellent suggestions. Everything is going to be well documented with measurements, pictures, video etc. It's like you're in my brain. I have been thinking about the wind whipping around as well. A cloth "fence" might be a great investment, about 8 feet...

You're right, they aren't. However, we only get 5-8" precipitation per year. I have done quite a bit of research on the subject, and am comfortable doing it. Another person in this area has done the same thing. I'll be protecting anything sensitive with a custom cover if I need to. As for the...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

After having the container on the property, seeing it in person, I realized that the only logical place for the lift is... here: Leaves plenty of room on all sites, is out of the way. There will eventually be a roof extending from the container's front edge up until the back of the garage...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

Got my container delivered today: Used the Burb's winch to hold it in place while he had to unload the trailer at an angle due to space constraints. Now, the work intensifies. Gotta get this thing insulated before I really move in. But, now I can put a car in front of it and see where I want...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

You'll appreciate the name of my weather station: Yes, it is dusty. I haven't mentioned the detail, but the placement of the container is to provide a wind shelter to everything behind it. It gets windy here: One of the reasons for the 40x25 slab is to cut down on local dust as well.

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

Indeed. Thanks for that. I have decided to just bite the bullet and get a 2 post lift. A cheapie will likely do just fine, and I'll read/watch reviews before dropping the cash. It'll be installed in 6" rebar reinforced concrete. More than enough strength for it. I am still in the design stage...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

Noted, guys. Your practical experience is exactly what I was hoping to benefit from. Sounds like I will be going with a 2 post lift after all. My ADHD turns me into an overthinker, but I also wanted to make sure I knew all the variables and understood the problem I'm trying to solve before...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

I did some more research and I am leaning strongly toward a badass floor jack, a good creeper/chair padding combination under the truck, and four of these: https://www.northerntool.com/products/sunex-high-height-pin-type-10-ton-jack-stands-pair-model-1410-39054 Those things go to almost 4...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

Good thinking! I may indeed want a carport in the future. The concrete slab will already be 4", for the lift (if I go that route) it'll be 6" for that area. It would! it would also require permitting. For my property size, only one container is allowed. If it were > 1 acre, I could have two. My...

Container based shop: 2 post lift placement advice?

After some more research, I think I might end up with one of these instead: https://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/portable-car-lifts/8000tl-portable-car-lift-quickjack/ That combined with a good creeper, chair, etc, will cover almost all of my needs, and stays out of the way. Does anybody have...
