    Cracks in transfer case

I hate to be picky but since you’re editing it, 84 and older and 2wd use the same length also.

    Cracks in transfer case

Great pic! I’ve seen the pic @bucket posted but that one shaft with the various lengths marked off is great. If you feel like editing it, the ‘85+ 205 uses the same length as the 208.

    Cracks in transfer case

The input spline counts can be different; th350 = 27 and th400 = 32. I’m guessing you have an np208, I don’t know if all of the inputs are a direct swap (ex; for an np205 there are input shaft bearing and bore size differences for a 32 spline shaft).

    Cracks in transfer case

Get some brake clean or solvent and get it CLEAN and double check. Casting flash lines are common and can look like cracks with dirt on them.

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

The only thing similar is the ring gear. Take a min to truly look at the diff body - your gov lock body is cone shaped with 2 holes out by the bearing for the clutch retainer clips while the OP’s open carrier pic shows a straight (almost tubular) body with reinforcing ribs and no holes by the...

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

Your pic is a Gov Lock, the 2 axles are just that different.

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

This is a Gov Lock, note the carrier body is smooth and cone shaped plus you can see 2 “windows” that show clutch plate retainers.

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

Here are a few pics of 10.5” diffs. Open carrier-

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

The question is about what differential it is, not what axle.

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

The Gov Bomb descriptions are correct but the OP’s diff is an open carrier, not a GB.

    Wheels

But they are 6 lug, did J trucks have 6 lugs maybe?

    Wheels

I’m not saying they weren’t available from GM but I’ve never seen them before. @Keith Seymore any input?

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

There should be little windows in the diff body - if you can see spider gear teeth it’s probably open, if you see a coil of a spring it’s a locker of some kind.

    Dash pictures of ‘77 K5 Blazet w/tach

Everyone doesn’t like digital. I prefer the look of a factory tach set up, to me digital just doesn’t match the look of the truck.

    Dash pictures of ‘77 K5 Blazet w/tach

I think 78 was when the font changed and speedos also went from 100 mph to 85. Early 70’s squares used an amp gauge instead of the later volt gauge so the related wiring / printed circuits are different. You’ll need the tach, small fuel gauge, cluster housing and printed circuit to do the...

    Starter gets stuck

It sounds like the bendix in the starter is bad, it’s like a clutch mechanism. Parts stores can test for amp draw etc but I’ve never seen a machine that will test the drive operation. I’d insist they swap the starter, it’s under warranty so nothing lost except another r&r (it doesn’t work) and...

    Throttle cable correct?

Thanks for the info. I picked up a cable from a 6.2 diesel That looks like it may be just right but I’m waiting on a carb swap before installing it.

    Throttle cable correct?

Mine does as well. I hate the loop, looks awful imo. I’m going to find an application with a shorter cable.

Transfer Case shifter ROD vs Cable? What are people using to avoid unnecessary wear in transfer case?

I will add, I have a triple stick Doubler with a JB Custom Fab cable shifter and it’s ok but I probably wouldn’t do it again. The shifter is super nice but I think I prefer the feel and compactness of a mechanical shifter. I don’t know if I’ll actually switch shifter types though since I’d have...

Transfer Case shifter ROD vs Cable? What are people using to avoid unnecessary wear in transfer case?

You’re going to find that 90%+ trucks with a 208 or 241 still have the shifter mounted to the cab exactly the way GM built it, linkage wear is a reality in a 40+ year old truck but not a real problem. Think about it, anti trans linkage is similar - effectively mounted to the cab yet there are...

    NP241 TRANSFER CASE SUPPORT ROD

It supports the transfer case. :Big Laugh: Sorry, I had to. :Big Laugh: I’ve never read a legit reason but I believe it’s to protect the tcase in the event of the front driveshaft bottoming out and pushing back on the tcase.

    Part Choice-Brake System

    Brake filter??
  25. nvrenuf

Odd cable/control going to foot feed.

If this question is for me, I’ve used them in the past for a couple of things when installed on the rear brake line; 1) E-brake, I have rear disc brakes but the big calipers I’m using don’t have an e-brake option. 2) Block pressure to the rear brakes to dig the rear tires down to help hold the...
