LS vs Vortec Swap vs Basic Upgrades - Cost Factors

If you're just stuck on keeping the Gen 1, then a Vortec take out is the way to go, IMO. They ran with spark and fuel control in overdriven applications. Very little wear or soot in them usually. If you just can't slap in a junkyard engine and roll, then you may as well rebuild the one you...

    ReWiring the Old Trucks

I'm also ready to rewire my entire truck. I have weird jumper loops, odd splices, pins falling out of the bulkhead connector... It's all bad. I've just ordered the Speedway kit, I don't need 22 circuits, but I feel like I need more than 12. The bummer is I'll have to make a bracket to mount...

    LED headlights

This is what stops me from upgrading as well. The lights in the Wrangler Sahara are fairly sedate, I need to find out if they are a 7" housing still.

Decent Paint That Won't Break the Bank

And when you dig into the MSDS sheets, you find out it get's produced by the same plant as the 180.00 a gallon TCP stuff lol. It's paint, it's a pretty established technology, I try not to over think anything.

Decent Paint That Won't Break the Bank

TCP Global several times, no complaints. Rustoleum, several times, no complaints. Nason once, no complaints. I don't own anything like a Hemi Cuda, and never will. I can't justify 1k on materials into a 3k driver quality truck.

    engine swap project

The last little things always take the longest. That's why no one who actually wrenches likes those stupid reality shows lol.

I have a tent too lol, in the UP, it's almost all rocks lol, you'd have to tie your tent to trees.

    79 Trans am

I use the 3m Ultrapro. I use a glove and smear it wherever it needs to go, then paint over it later. In production it's applied to bare metal, but I always paint, apply, then paint over it.

Test fit the camper yesterday, got my little solar generator going as well. Camper needs to come up a bit and I need to add tie down points and find a way to securely level the tailgate.

In the real world, these things happen to all of us lol. It's only on reality TV where they have 8 minutes to do a frame off restoration and it fires on the first try lol. Congratulations!

Ultra rare collectible square body trucks?

That's pretty much what these thing's come down to. You can home in as much as you like, but someone is going to come along and have had one just like it, except the opposite color, and a long bed, and 4x4... That doesn't really happen when you have a Hemi Cuda lol

Ultra rare collectible square body trucks?

Yeah, but mine is 1 of 3 built on March 3rd, 1978, in Grey SWB, with a 250, 3 speed, and with the ashtray installed by Paul because the normal guy, Mike, was on break. 150K Firm, I KNOW WHAT I HAVE!!!!!

What size shielding gas tank to get for welding

I struggled with the same thing. It's a big up front expense. I bought a 125 locally for 270.00, filled. I exchange it once a year or so for about 60.00. I do a fair bit of welding, not a ton, but some, probably 5-6 times a month. I've done at least one bumper each year. But you won't be...

    Cab wing

I like it, but honestly, I'd probably just 2 sided tape it on. Or seam seal it. I have my solar panels 2 sided taped on my camper and they haven't blown away yet.

Ultra rare collectible square body trucks?

The cars you listed, are both rare, and desirable. So with that said, most trucks are not both rare and desirable. Mainly because they were mass produced, and most people lump them all together anyway. And most don't have truly special engines or parts. Mostly they are trim packages. So i...

Cut steel on a regular basis? Or at all?

Carbide is pretty brittle stuff. It can't take a hard hit. I try to creep into my cut as mush as possible and keep slow, steady pressure on the tool. If it hits, or bounces, it will probably chip, and if it chips, it's done.
