    Quality Diff cover recommendations needed

Is it not worth refinishing a factory used cover from the boneyard? You know it’ll fit well.

What is this wire / connector

Bringing this thread to the top again as I’m curious Showing my ignorant here but. Don’t automatics have neutral safety switches? Isn’t that why the truck won’t start when in gear?

    What is this device?

It looks like a Solenoid to me when power is applied it should allow flow. Why? No idea. I’m curious to know when power is applied. My guess is that it doesn’t belong. On another note your battery terminals look like they are arcing. Clean them nice and reassemble tight. Battery clamps do wear...

Any pics of the 70's paint scheme on an 80's truck?

No sure what decade this paint scheme falls into but, I think it’s cool as hell.

    Manifold vacuum Tee

You are correct on that, the issue that I’m having is because of that bend in the photo. The Tee effectively bottoms out so the additional rotation is likely to strip the threads on the aluminum intake. I do have Teflon tape and will certainly do 2 wraps. You guys have been super helpful. I...

    Manifold vacuum Tee

Appreciate the pointers gents, The truck isn’t a 100 point restoration, it’s a very nice 85 that was underpowered. Upgraded to a mild 350 and I’m trying to have it as clean / professional and era appropriate as possible. I’m gonna try the corvette link since it is probably my best no risk...

What is this and what does it do?

From my 1985- 305. I’m pretty sure it’s the egr bleed solenoid

    Manifold vacuum Tee

Gents, I’m looking to replace this manifold Tee off of my 1985 305 The tee came off of my factory intake and won’t tighten well on my aluminum performer intake. If I turn it To the position that is tight and favors accessibility I’m pretty confident it’s going to bigger the threads. For some...

    Quadrajet idle screws question

How do I get the damn plugs out? Here is what I did. I used a drwl with a cut off wheel to make them flat I then used bit 953 to patiently remove all the metal in a circular pattern. Once through I switched to a 941 cone bit to bring the taper all the way to the walls. Patients is mandatory...

    1985 K20 350ci Engine Swap Choice

Fwiw. I just rebuilt an engine at home and it cost me around $2200 including the purchase of the used engine. To do it again I would have bought an off the shelf, save time money and risk. Just make sure you get a cam that suits your needs

    350 engine swap videos

Just about everything is 9/16 , 5/8 or 3/8. I did have a couple oddball metric in my 1985 too. I’m in the process of a swap and 2 things that made my life much easier was spraying all the bolts multiple times over several days with a good penetration fluid and also using air tools. The wrapping...

    Temp gauge not working

If you grounded out the wire and the needle on the gauge didn’t move then I suspect the 1) wire is broken between the huge and the sender ( wires can break and/or corrode internally. 2) the gauge it self is bad. Do a quick google on checking a wire for resistance (ohms ) and you should be...

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

Thanks guys. Timing is at 4 deg btc. The engine runs best at this spot and more advance she acts up real bad and any less the power is gone. Egr functions. When vacuum is applied it opens but. I have to check and see if the engine “responds” I’m running 93 octane in the north east. I...

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

Any updates on this one? I’m chasing a persistent ping in my 1985 high Sierra 305. I did the hammer test and the knock sensor works. I couldn’t find any specific info on the tip in switch. Seems that it is a vacuum controlled momentary contact switch that temporarily closes when vacuum is lost...
