    Finally got a running 65 C10

I finished pulling the engine apart today. Number five cylinder has a broken ring and a broken piston. Some of the broken pieces are stuck in the top of the piston. I don’t see any contact on the bottom side of the valves. That’s the only piston that has problems. It’s cylinder has absolutely no...

Yeah, I don’t know. I just pulled the camshaft out and it looks absolutely normal. The front cam bearing has a little wear, but nothing alarming. Now I’m reading on Google that a quart every thousand miles is an acceptable amount of oil burn for a mid 80s 350 lol. Granted, the 283 burns a quart...

Yeah, no more thumper cam ********. I’m going to call like Howard cams or bullet cams and talk to them on what they recommend for what I want. Maybe even a roller cam, the block is compatible. Kind of doing research right now to see if I can just re-ring and re-bearing it as it sits without any...

I thought about it more today and I guess that was a dumb question. Plus, I think the guy I sold the truck to ran it low on oil. It had like 2 quarts in it when I got it. Tons of metallic swirls in the oil. Clump of finite material on the magnetic drain plug, the size of an acorn.

should I replace the cam if I do new lifters?

Started my compression check. Cylinder 2, 160. 4, 150. Then started wondering if I had oil pressure.was hearing a creaking sound. Pulled the valve covers, dry as a bone, pulled the dizzy and primed with a drill, nothing. Well, barely a gloop out of one pushrod. Went to remove the oil sending...

I went and finished pulling the 355 out of the White K 10 at my friends house. It spun over easily by hand, like you just turned it off. No noise from the rings or anything. Somebody put auto light plugs in it, and they’re not for the right year because these are vortec heads and they need the...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

I picked up four push rods from O’Reillys. Installed two of them, cranked it up today no problems, drove it about 15 miles to the next town on the way home at about 65 miles an hour with my guys following me. Started tapping again, pulled into a tractor supply parking lot and sure enough both...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

I don’t really know. When it gets to technical stuff like this I have to stop and do research. I guess that’s what I’m going to have to do but in the meantime I think I’m going to prep that 355 to drop in. Damn thing was so loyal for so long. And then I won’t have to deal with the thumper cam...

Well. Bent two pushrods on 8. Not sure why it keeps doing this, the last time was number 4. I adjusted the rockers to tapping, then not tapping, then half turn. Sticking valves? I hope I didn’t mess the cam up. I cranked it to leave work and noticed it was running odd, then noticed the loud...

I hate to be that guy but that’s exactly who was telling me to go ididit, a guy that went through all the trouble to rebuild his column, still wasn’t satisfied, went ididit and then recommended me to do the same. Then he got like 10 responses with other guys agreeing I just don’t want to...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Well, the current column is shot, and the lower bearing is gone, and it’s gouged on the shaft. I saw a comment the other day on one of the fb pages that people said it’s not worth rebuilding the columns, go ididit and be done with it. My 64 gmc suburban had factory auto, power glide. And yeah...

Starting to look around for a 200r4 candidate to rebuild. Can I just get an ididit automatic steering column and be good? What linkage will I need to find from the column to the trans?

I lied that thing burned a quart and a half since I check it last which wasn’t that long ago lol 200 miles on it today and 10 miles to the gallon at 55 miles an hour. Not really sure why it got better last time but whatever. Only problem I had other than extreme fuel consumption was it died on...

Slow season for the small time self employed tradesmen. Not a lot of playing money. Think I'm still gonna tackle the rockers when things take off again. Haven't done anything to it, other than drive it. Still not leaking, and I even checked that it still had oil. In fact, it doesnt seem to have...

I don’t think it’s over cammed or over exhausted, I just didn’t realize with these cams you have to bump the rpm so high. I really think rear exit exhaust will help her out on the loud front I drove 55 on some nice backroads yesterday, for a 3 hour trip and 55 is really where the truck wants...

The only option I think I have is having a professional put exhaust on it and route it out the back or the back sides with some of those really big magna flow mufflers.
