No. Definite vacuum leak. Place hand on carb, idles up. Let off, down. Sprayed carb cleaner can’t tell if it’s carb or manifold. Step dad said pull plug wire off dizzy one at a time. Number 8 came off, no difference. He said pull that plug if it’s wet, vacuum leak. If it’s dry valve too...

I messed with the mixture screws but ended up putting them were they were originally

    Finally got a running 65 C10

I’m at like 37 degrees total timing. The truck idle is all over the place from 900 to 1100. My step dad (who built 8 sec cars) thinks the valves are too tight, he referring the popping sound he hears. When it cools down I’m gonna take the valve covers off and adjust them while it’s running I...

I haven’t touched the mixture screws. Honestly, I’m just adjusting the what you would call idle stop screw I guess. What is the proper position for how far that thing is screwed in? Is there one?

Thanks for the info. I was kind of reading on that myself yesterday. Being completely honest, I think the timing is close to 40° total already. I’m going to check that. Should I be checking it with the engine revved up a little bit? Because that’s not how I checked it last time. I just checked...

Headed to my mom‘s house in the boondocks so I can fire this thing up and give it some timing and idle.

I have no idea. It’s just a unit from oreillys like a street fire or something

Man, the more I read about the thumper cam I got, the more I think it was a terrible choice. 279/297 .479/.465 Apparently it wants higher compression than what I have, and a higher converter. I can attest to that by the way I have to rev it to take off….and it definitely hurt the drivability on...

I wonder if my low idle/surging idle could be due to over tightening valves?

Cranked the truck up and drive it out of the neighborhood. Let it sit running for while. So effing loud. But it just doesn’t seem to run right. Almost like a vacuum leak but I can’t find one. Like it’ll run low low rpms and then all of a sudden spike and run high for awhile. It never really gets...

A costly mistake. Just glad he was able to do it. Luckily the ignition popped right out of the dash after the lock ring was unscrewed, he said some of them don’t

Yeah kinda sucks. We moved from 5 acres to this. I’ve gotten half a dozen letters from the HOA about silly things like parking my low boy trailer in the driveway for over 24 hours. It’s always gone before I even get the damn letter. Last Halloween I put a skeleton in the window above my garage...

Got the header bolts locking clips finished. Starter, plugs and wires back in. Manual choke cable in. Then, I cranked the truck with it choked and it was so damn loud with open headers I just shut it off. I live in a HOA now and didn’t wanna do that to my neighbors. I’m going to get a friend of...

For sure. Also noticed I have a valve cover gasket leak on the passenger side in the very back. That will have to be fixed. Off work now headed to get a manual choke cable for this thing. Until I can get something better

I thought the passenger side header would be a breeze compared to the drivers. No. Almost more of a pain. Starter had to come out, and truck had to be jacked up as high as the jack would go plus a block. Scraped the header all to hell and back getting it in from the bottom, and there was like...

Awesome thanks guys. Yeah my stepdad has several drag cars open headers but I never knew if they were different due to being race engines lol

Not really, I tried to make it work but had to cut it. Wouldn’t it “burn valves” driving it open headers for length of time?

    Finally got a running 65 C10

No I didn’t. So my old exhaust doesn’t bolt up to the new headers. The new headers are a smaller flange size. How the hell am I going to get this thing 35 minutes away to the exhaust shop? I could have it hauled on a wrecker or haul it on my car hauler but I still need to crank it, warm it...

So someone on YouTube said this isn’t a 283 it’s a 305 they cited the fact that the 283 doesn’t have an oil filter on the block? Now I’ve got to run the numbers I’m surprised I didn’t when I had it out
