    yes that sensor feeds manifold pressure info to the computer then the computer controls the carb and lock up As for the stalling thing i would instal the 3 port fuel pump before doing any other diagnostics.

    after looking at the wiring diagram for the 85. it looks like that vacuum sensor is for the computer controlled carb and the computer also controls the lock up on your trans. Im not familiar with the CCC systems and probably not going to be the best of help on this system.

    230 is a little hard on the heads. with an 87 i assume you have a reverse rotation fan serpentine setup. I would consider swapping to a fan from one of the vortec motor , they had 10 or 11 blades as i recall. need all the cooling you can get here in AZ

    these are all temp sensors with different terminals. the second one is a nail head design found on earlier chevys . the knock sensor should be in the bottom of the block and much bigger.

    It goes to another vacuum motor that's part of the recirc system. im not familiar with the 81 up cowl but suspect you have to remove the panel to access the motor.

    To the best of my recollection on an 87 with tbi you have to disconnect a wire to set the timing so the computer is not advancing or retarding it. if it was set with the wire connected your timing could be way off.

    Added a wideband O2 gauge to help with the tuning. temporary mounted with velcro :shrug:, I will most likely remove it when im done tuning it.

    You would have to do the whole assembly to upgrade to 1" . To measure what you have, just put an open end wrench on the threads, if the smallest wrench that fits is 7/8 that what you have. no disassembly required.

    Turns out the pinging i've been chasing down for the last couple months was not pinging. After playing with timing and jetting it turns out that the vacuum switch for the torque converter would buzz depending on the throttle position it and sounded like pinging. So added a vacuum delay check...
