    Cruisin the Coast 2025

We are less than a week away and I believe my '87 is ready. I will probably find several more things I need to do to it before we leave but for now it is solid. I am trying to decide if I am going to even bother with the camera this year. Frankly carrying a camera and a phone is a pain and...

To Tint or Not to Tint

I live in Louisiana so I know exactly what you are dealing with in Florida with no tint. I personally think a decent tint would look superb against the charcoal gray of your truck. I unfortunately have a haircut that allows the sun to burn the skin on my head so I had to Do Something. I had...

    Tire Recommendations

There is simply no 100% correct answer regarding The Perfect Tire. How much lift you have (or none at all), the overall look you are going for, the conditions YOU drive in and the characteristics of the mud in your area are all unique factors that affect what works "best" for you. I personally...

History related, when did people start lifting Chevy trucks?

My Dad lifted his '77 GMC while it was still very new. His first modification was a PTO winch, the second a mild lift and a set of mud grip tires. Regarding the ground clearance, where I live and play we have a lot of very soft, very deep mud. We sometimes call it Gumbo Mud, our first set of...

    Bad alternator bearings

With mine the tighter I put the belt, the more noise I had. Again, I had spent extra for the AC Delco and still got garbage. It lasted about 2.5 years and less than 5K before the noise became unbearable. My bearings were never rough. There was just lateral play and it was there when I...

    Bad alternator bearings

I recently replaced a noisy alternator that had less than 5K miles on it. I had paid extra for the AC/Delco alternator and it had lateral movement from day one. It just got worse. When I removed it I could duplicate the noise, although at a much lower frequency by turning the pulley by hand...

Lawn/ Garden tractors/ Riding Mowers, Cool Mods and tinkering

I think there are different tools for different applications. I love my zero turn, it "cut" my mowing time down significantly. I got rid of a John Deere riding mower to buy this Hustler and I have never even considered going back to a conventional mower. My yard was a 2 hour and 40 minute cut...

    87’ Silverado vacuum lines

I am not fully understanding your question. Are you talking about the T in the last pic? It's late and my mind isn't working as well as it should so if you can point me in the proper direction I will try to get the pic you want.

    82 style bunper fog lights

I don't think those are Fog Lights. Aren't those the actual running/turn signal lights? And only for that '82 model year...I think.

    Towing with an old truck

@bucket no, the 2500HD springs are NOT weak. I have done things with the 3 different 2500HDs that would have sent the designing engineers into cardiac arrest. I am old enough to remember that these trucks and the equivalent Fords and Dodges of the '70s and '80s moved whatever needed moving...

What have you done to your square lately??

I don't think this one matters. If the Scotch were still in a barrel, the extra years would make a difference. Wine continues to mature in the bottle but whisky (Scotch doesn't have the "e" like other whiskey) is pretty much going to stay the same once it is bottled. As far as I know anyway...

    1988 Camaro

That is a 1988 and is either throttle body or TPI. All Camaro engines were fuel injected in '88. In '85 there were fuel injected Z28s but the lower level Camaro 305s were carbureted.

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

And if the alignment tech is a good one he may just find some other problem(s). Mine was pretty bad until I replaced the stabilizer. Yes, I saw you already did that. I had also but using a "stock" replacement stabilizer did nothing. A heavy duty, Skyjacker stabilizer set up for larger tires...

What have you done to your square lately??

We like to call this Percussive Calibration. Operators in the plant love to use it on level switches, pressure switches and sometimes on transmitters. I&E Techs hate this.

    Toe adjustment 1987 V10

All of that is good advice but if it is toed out so badly he can clearly see it and he is out of adjustment, something is WRONG. Getting a perfect measurement won't help him if he cannot adjust any further. I confess I didn't measure mine. When I replaced the tie rod ends I adjusted it by...

    Toe adjustment 1987 V10

My tie rods are both screwed in pretty far but there is some thread left on both. Unless you have some incorrectly matched components I don't see how you could run out of adjustment. Just crawled under the nose of it to check, I have about 3/4 inch of thread on the driver's side and about 1/2...

What have you done to your square lately??

@legopnuematic is 100% correct here. You need to do both sides. When you seal one side only you will have a moisture imbalance and the boards will curl. This will happen inside a house, it will happen outside in a truck bed. Our members who live in more arid climates may have a different...

What have you done to your square lately??

Shou Sugi Ban/Yakisugi? I just bought a torch large enough to do this, about to try it on the lumber coming off my sawmill. Are you going to add any type of oil or sealer? And did you burn it on the other side and ends also? It looks really good by the way.

What have you done to your square lately??

Sorry, @JamesSam forgot to answer that part. I don't know about getting him on the phone. He and I communicated by email. He sure knows a lot and he helped me out big time...but he seems like he doesn't enjoy communication. I may be wrong on that but that was my impression. Again, my...

What have you done to your square lately??

I have...thoughts. 1. If it started after the shop fixed your biggest problem (it didn't run!) then it is related to either the fix or some adjustment they made. That adjustment was either accidental or intentional. 2. You were just singing the praises for this shop (as well you should) so if I...

    87 tbi zero power

I would start at the battery and the battery terminals. That is the easiest spot to reach anyway. You said the battery is good...but how do you know? Put a meter on it and see if the voltage reading drops when someone else tries to start the truck.
