Question about center grilles - 81-87
The biggest difference should be the blinker/running light mounts. The '83 to '87 models had the blinker/running lights inside the grill, your '81 has them in the bumper. Externally you would never notice if those lights were there or not. I am guessing (which means I don't honestly know for... -

For me that truck is already going to stand out because of the 1985 only two tone paint scheme. Really no need to do anything different, it's already different and pretty rare. -

Wow! That must be why Ford and GM cannot sell any diesel trucks! They just cannot compete. Either the air is thinner where you live and trucks get better mileage or your diesel fuel is better. The only Dodge/Ram Cummins I ever ran that ever got better than 21 consistently had a tuner or...- Redfish
