Sliding Bed back away from Cab
The rear light harness is on the driver's side there is a disconnect close to the rear so you won't have to worry about brake and turn signal wiring. You will have to disconnect the lic plate light and any trailering plugs from the bumper if applicable. -
Truck rewire.
It's probably not as bad as you think. Get a multimeter learn how to use it or ask a friend that knows how to use one.- hoagster

Truck rewire.
The difficult part is the interior and engine portion. The firewall is a three piece clam shell. The interior is one and the engine compartment side splits in to two pieces. one side is the rear lighting and the other side is front lighting and engine, fuel controls. I have a couple of spots like that on mine and they are butt prints from high school days gonna leave them! They make a shrinking disk that heats up the metal and then you cool it, but like everyone else if you have to be careful not to make it worse!- hoagster

Ditto on the battery cables especially if the are original. They may look good at the terminals but corroded under the sheathing at both ends.- hoagster

Steering Improvement Suggestions
My frame had a cracks in it and I have had to repair to trucks with cracks in the frames. As stated before this is common especially in lifted ones. @nvrenuf Was spot on on how to find movement, caused by a crack or damaged frame. I know you said you replaced the Steering box and probably would...- hoagster

Seeing your's is motivation and low temps has helped me get the cab ready for base/clear and reinstall! -
8.1 vortec into 1979 k30
You are correct and Advanced Adapters has what he needs. I have a 5.3 LM7 connected to s SM465/205 combo. And The A/C location will not work. Easy fix with a upper adapter and a different belt. The A/C wiring will reach to the upper location without changing it.- hoagster
